Friday DIY Roundup #31
Friday, September 4, 2015
Happy pre-Labor Day weekend, readers! I had an orthodontist appointment today so I'm writing this late at night, which is when I always seem to find the best DIYs of them all ;) I've been knitting a lot lately because I'm in a hurry to finish my scarf by the time fall gets here. It's really coming along and I can't wait to wear it because it's super soft and it's my first ever knitting project- I can't wait to experiment with other yarns and make more stuff for the cold weather that Oregon greets us with every Fall + Winter. Let's get to the DIYs, though~
1. DIY Cookie Cutter Jewelry Trays (as shown in photo) by Aww, Sam
2. Yard Yahtzee (!!!) by Momtastic
3. How to Make Your Own Giant Floor Pillows by DIY Roundup
4. Wooden Branch Coat Rack by A Designer Life
5. DIY Photo Booth Prints by Lay Baby Lay
6. DIY Marbled Mugs with Nail Polish by DIY Candy
7. Scented Sidewalk Chalk by Bitz & Giggles
#3 looks super cozy for fall, and I'd really like to try that cookie cutter jewelry tray- but I don't think I'd use it for jewelry, I'd probably rather use it for small office supplies, etc. Which one of this week's DIYs are your favorite? Tell me in the comments below. Thanks for reading!

9 Places to Visit Before You Die
Thursday, September 3, 2015
Travel is an occasional passion of mine. Though I really don't like missing school, it's nice to go to new places, see new people, and add new souvenirs to my collection. My mum is currently in Maui visiting family, and I really wish I'd gone, because they're getting Krispy Kreme without me- but I can't miss the beginning of the school year, so I stayed. But travel is a huge part of a lot of people's bucket lists, including mine, but here are a few places that perhaps are not included in yours.
1. The Oregon coast redwoods are a surely magical place that you must visit. I've been there countless times, because I live in Oregon and we go to the beach sometimes, and it's so beautiful. It's where they filmed a few scenes out of Star Wars... Isn't that cool, that you'll be exploring the place where they found those furry little munchkins? The trees are ancient giants and I bet I could write about the redwoods until I die. I feel so lucky to live this close to the redwoods...
2. The Mendenhall Ice caves of Alaska are some of the most beautiful caves I've ever seen. Though I've visited and seen the Oregon Caves, these are a whole new experience- the whole cave melts as you walk through it! It's like an igloo, all blue inside, and the walls are shaped beautifully- I have officially just added this to my bucket list.
3. The Sea of Stars on Vaadhoo Island in the Maldives is a literal sea of stars (but not real stars). Though it looks like a reflection of the night sky above, the bio luminescence in the water is actually caused by marine microbes called phytoplankton and it sure makes quite a site at night. You can draw shapes and such in the sand using the plankton, and if you walk in the water, they trail in your footsteps, leaving your foot prints glowing in your trail until dawn. It sure is a breathtaking site.
4. Whitehaven Beach at Whitusnday, Australia is truly the beach of your dreams. The crystal blue waters swirl into a design along with the finest of all sands, leaving a site fit for any vacation, especially mine, since I have ALWAYS wanted to go to Australia. In fact, the sand is so fine, that walking on it feels like magic and it's extremely calming. Can't wait to go!
5. The Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona is considered one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the world and the view is certainly one of a kind, and so is the hike. You might think it's a really common vacation and it's too hot and probably super crowded so you might not want to go there, but you're a little wrong there. The grand canyon is like a timeline showing millions of years, and how the water that was once there sculpted and molded the rock like clay over time, leaving this natural wonder that will leave you awestruck. It's 277 miles long and 18 miles wide- that's pretty big, so I doubt it'll be too crowded, but don't count on being the only one there.
6. Trolltunga in Hordaland, Norway is kind of like the edge of the world. In English it means "Troll's Tongue" and it's a ledge on a cliff about 2000 feet up in the air, overlooking beautiful mountains and icy water- so try not to trip, slip, or fall. It's available to some of you extreme hikers from about mid-June to about mid-September, which is probably about how long it will take you to get all the way up there. It's a truly amazing place to add to your bucket list as soon as possible ;)
7. The swing at the "End of the World" in Banos, Ecuador actually is the end of the world and I would only recommend this place for extreme risk-takers and daredevils. At the edge of Ecuador lies a rickety old tree house overlooking an active volcano, with an attached swing with no harnesses and thus the most unsafe swing in the world, inviting only the bravest to take a seat, swing, and experience one of the most killer-views in all of South America.
8. Zhangye Danxia is a colorful landform located in Gansu, China and it reminds me of Waimea Canyon in Kauai because of how colorful it is. The swirls of red, yellow, blue, and green will surely take your breath away, and you will want to stand there forever, relishing in the beauty of it all. The rainbow formation is a result of red sandstone and mineral deposits being laid down for 24 million years- which makes it a natural timeline, much like the grand canyon.
9. And last but not least, the Tunnel of Love in Klevan, Ukraine is a popular spot for local lovers. It's definitely a Pinterest favorite! The entire tunnel is covered in green and life, making it a beautiful hot spot for engagement photos and dates, picnics, romantic walks, etc. Though there is an active train that runs 3 times a day to deliver wood to a factory, so beware the train before plan your wedding there!
I can't wait to write another one of these, it was really fun to talk about bucket list favorites and I really want to go to a couple of these places, like #9 and #2. Thanks for reading!

40 Ways Your Dog Makes Your Life 100% Better
Tuesday, September 1, 2015
I have 2 dogs, Darwin and Seamus, both Border Collies. Darwin is black and white and he's almost 6 years old now- Seamus is red and white but he isn't even a year old and we can already tell he's a total butt head. He digs a ton of holes, he chews up everything, and he jumps in and out of the truck freely when we go on hikes. Darwin is really skiddish around him but sometimes snaps when Seamus pulls his tail. I can't imagine my life without these beautifully blissful creatures- here are 40 ways they can make your life 100% better.
1. They can help you get in shape! My dogs always come with me on hikes on my journey to get active.
2. They ALWAYS want to hear about your day, and chances are, they won't interrupt.
3. They're always happy to see you when you get home, whether you were gone for 5 minutes or 5 weeks. They love it when I get back from vacation!
4. They serve as an emergency hand towel if you have poop on your hands... Just sayin.

5. They always want to hang out if you're not up for talking.
6. They make FANTASTIC nap-time pals ;)
7. Leftover food? No problem.
8. Food spilled on the floor? No problem.
9. They will gladly be a pony for hire, if you've got little kids... And a great dane.
10. They add so much pizazz to everyday chores and business. Shopping just got so much better...
11. Their smile makes up for every mess ever made (by them).
12. They keep away unwanted and potentially dangerous intruders... e.g. the mailman.
13. No matter what, they're always ready for an adventure.
14. Taking them to the vet gives you opportunities to pet other animals and sample dog treats.
15. They looooove doing EVERYTHING with you and they are never not happy, which means they will promote a positive attitude on a daily basis!
16. You know you love seeing their faces flapping along in the wind when they get to sit in the front seat.
17. They understand your peanut butter obsession completely and it's adorably hilarious to see them try to eat it.
18. Isn't it cute when they jump into piles of leaves in the fall? It's cute.
19. They'll stop at nothing to please you... Oh, you're thirsty? I'll start drooling.
20. They're so eager to help you win world records!! *wink wink*
21. They know just the goofy face you need when you come home from work, and you know you need it, too.
22. Oh, you accidentally threw your frisbee into the pond? On it.
23. They will always watch TV with you when no one else is there.
24. Who else but man's best friend to complete your synchronized swimming team?
25. But seriously, they will swim with you, and maybe save your life if you happen to drown.
26. Sometimes, a good ole doggy birthday party is just what you need.
27. Yeah, they'll play football with you!!
28. They keep the rodent population under control.
29. They're cool with just staying in and relaxifying on a lazy Friday night.
30. But are also always up for a good party every now and then.
31. They're excellent nannies!! Especially retrievers and border collies.
32. They'll help carry the groceries, because they know you bring home the bacon.
33. Every now and then, they'll help with laundry by pulling off the bed linens.
34. They'll make bath time hilarious... As apposed to cats.
35. They'll share your love of your favorite foods, and they'll even split the bill (in half... with their teeth).
36. They're great friends to each other and will keep each other company when you go out clubbing, if they don't come with you.
37. They WILL make you viral on YouTube.
38. They'll put on a tie, too, if you don't feel like showing up to work...
39. They're very helpful!!
40. And they will NEVER forget you.
I hope this inspired you to either love your dog even more than ever or get a dog. Thanks for reading!
