How to Make a Chore Bucket

Sunday, April 5, 2015

A lot of people like to use a chore chart t organize, simplify, and make a child's chores more fun. But they can be kind of stressful- such as keeping them up to date, where to put them, having to graph multiple children and multiple chores, etc. It gets complicated, so here is a different process that I'd much rather use. I got the inspiration from an article that I was reading on this very subject- except I lost both the article and the blog. So, here's my explanation of it, and I hope you think it's a good idea, too. Here's how to make one-

Kid's Responsibility Board & Chore Chart System. Good ideas on how to execute, plus materials that can be purchased at uncommon goods. | In Lieu of PreschoolSupplies:

-15-25 Craft sticks/wooden popsicle sticks (you can get them at craft stores, or just save some up from all those ice pops you devour)

-A small bucket or a cute box.

-A marker.

That's it. Now here's how to do it- first, you'll have to make the bucket/box look kind of cute. Write something on it, add some stickers, just make it look good- washi tape will do the trick. Then, with all those popsicle sticks, write down all the chores there are to be done; here's a list that you might want to write down on them. Remember, one chore for every stick, and don't be afraid to double up on one because it might need to be done more often.

-Load dishwasher
-Empty dishwasher
-Walk dogs
-Clean room
Bored Bucket. Easy to make, and fun for the kids. Fill it with both chores and fun activities to help get rid of summer boredom.-Pick up toys
-Organize closet
-Tidy up living room
-Fold laundry
-Wash clothes & put in dryer
-Set table for dinner
-Clear table from dinner
-Clean bathroom
-Feed dogs
-Feed cats
-Mow lawn
-Clean windows w/ Windex
-Dust
-Wash dishes
-Sweep
-Vacuum
-Mop

Now that's just a few things you might want to write down, and the chores vary depending on the age. Now that you have those all written down on the craft sticks, stick 'em in the bucket and have your child pick one at random (make them close their eyes!). I hope this is a fun alternative for you to a chore chart. Enjoy, and tell me what you think!

xx Savannah

p.s. Here's an idea- every time they say they're bored, make them pick a chore. Also, paint the sticks with chalk board paint so that they're interchangeable *EEK!*.
