App Review: Poncho

Tuesday, June 7, 2016

I've done an app review in the past because I thought it would be fun, and it was hard to choose another great app to write about, and it all came down to this awesome app that I use every single day- Poncho! Poncho is a weather app, it's free on the App Store and I'm very sorry, but it is NOT available on the Google Play Store :(

WHEN I GOT IT + HOW I FOUND OUT ABOUT IT //

What could be more luxurious than a stack of books, a cup of coffee and a rainy day?: I got Poncho a couple of months ago, when I was carelessly browsing the apps and games that get recognition from Apple, and Poncho came up. I had no idea what it was from the name or picture, so I read about it and after looking at the reviews, I thought it would be a good idea to get it (not a very hard decision, considering it was free), even though I already had a weather app that came with my phone.

PROS //
-It gives you a cute little forecast every day with a funny picture to go with it- so even when the skies are grey, they still make you happy.
-The forecasts are extremely accurate, and usually have the same thing posted as Wunderground, if not more accurate, a I've noticed.
-It even comes with an alarm! You can set it to wake you up at a certain time and give you the weather forecast, and even though I already have an alarm set on my phone, this would be awesome to try out soon.
-Other cool features include parking options (New York only), whether or not you'll have frizzy hair, pollen warnings, and a barometer.
-Did I mention it gives you the WIND SPEED??
-Not only are there daily forecasts, but there are also hourly ones. Now, if only it told me when the mosquitoes are gonna come out....
-There's a referral code to earn free stuff. I'm not interested in the stuff, but if you sign up, go ahead and use my referral code; it's 9Y2FKBBK.

CONS //

-People have mentioned in the reviews section that the alarm doesn't work all that well and doesn't go off at the right time.
-When there's a chance of precipitation, I wish it would tell me the percent of the chance like Wunderground does; it's the little things like that.....
-It's nice and simple, but maybe a little too simple. There isn't really enough there.

I hope you decide to download Poncho, and if you do, use my referral code! Overall, it's a great and useful app that is cute and very accurate, as far as the weather goes (the weather forecasts are almost never accurate in Oregon because it's 104 degrees one minute and overcast and chilly the next).

My 10 Favorite iPhone Apps Right Now

Thursday, January 14, 2016

In July, I wrote a post about my ten favorite apps right after I got my new phone- but, much like my YouTube Favorites, it's a lot different now than it was then. I SO wish I could do more than ten but I want to mimic my last post, which you can read here. So I guess you could say this is kind of a Throwback Thursday post, which I should totally do more often because I love these. All of these are free on the appstore, except for maybe Colorburn because I got that one when it was Free App of the Week.

1. Village Life

Free stock photo of smartphone, technology, mockup, apps
Yeah, it's one of those.... I don't usually download these (I'm totally lying I always do) but I saw a friend playing this one and I thought it looked super fun, and I fell in love with this game. It's a lot of fun to give the villagers what they want and gain their happiness, and then having your villagers have babies, and simply just watching them age day by day.

2. King of Thieves

Yes, I know, thieves are extremely frowned upon- especially where I live. But this game is so addicting, and I'd highly recommend it to everyone, mostly kids 10-11+ because it can be complicated and stuff and it's not great for kids of younger ages who can't understand it. Basically, you have to be the best thief in the world by stealing from other players and basically collecting the most gems. I'm literally playing this right now...

3. Neko Atsume

If you speak Japanese, then you know what this game might be about. If not, then I don't expect you to, because I didn't either at first- except for the cat part which I already knew. It's pretty much a game where you have to collect all of the cats by setting out food and toys for them to play with, and then they come and you add them to your cat book.

4. Word Bubbles

Okay, yes, I only just got this yesterday... But I'm playing it as I type and it's more addicting than chocolate covered Twinkies. It's a word puzzle, so it definitely works your brain, but it feels like just a little game it has a super pretty design that I like, because there are some knockoffs that aren't as good looking.

5. Goat, Giraffe, Platypus, Zebra & Octopus Evolution

Free stock photo of camera, iphone, smartphone, taking photoI have nearly all of the evolution games, and Zebra & Octopus are my latest ones. Even though these are meant for younger ages (I'm a 3 year old at heart) I love these and they can get quite addicting, not to mention it's constantly changing- once you get past earth, you get to go to Mars and evolve your creatures there. 10/10, would highly recommend.

6. Colorburn

So I got this one when it was free app of the week, and so far I love it and use it pretty often. It's a photo app with over 1000 filters, and all you have to do is swipe your screen to mix and match in seconds (oops I sound like an infomercial sorry). I've used it a lot, and it's definitely worth it if you're gonna pay money for it, even though I didn't pay for it.

7. Shooty Skies

Free stock photo of iphone, smartphone, taking photo, photography
This one is way more fun than Crossy Road, and is made by the same exact people. You know how on Crossy Road you just tap the screen, occasionally swipe, and nothing else so it's super boring? Well in Shooty Skies you're flying around, and not tapping, but shooting bad guys and collecting power ups. Much more fun...

8. Candy Crush Jelly Saga

Almost the same as the first two, Candy Crush Jelly Saga is the latest candy saga out there and also probably the best. You get to play against a computer in some levels, battling to win, and in others you have to find a marshmallow that moves to a different spot with every move you make. It can get pretty addicting, which is why I'm sad when I run out of lives...

9. Paper 53

Apple iPhone 6 Plus on a white deskThis is my favorite drawing app of all time, the minimalism design is amazing, but also offers a wide variety of features, including sharing your drawing with other friends with the same app, drawing on other friends pictures and saving them as your own, and using lots of tools to create whatever you please. These are the same people that made the 53 Pencil- yes, the $99 stylus.

10. Buzzfeed

Finally, last but not least, Buzzfeed. Buzzfeed is really nice to use whenever I'm just bored and need a good laugh, or perhaps just need to catch up on the news- I read it online and on mobile, constantly binge reading one post after the other. Thanks for being there when Netflix wasn't, Buzzfeed.

Those are all of my favorite mobile apps on 2016, and I'm not sure if all of these are available on Android except for Paper 53; that one is definitely not available, which is disappointing because I was looking forward to using it on my Samsung tablet- but oh well.

App Review: Polyvore

Monday, December 28, 2015

So I've never done an app review before, but I thought it looked really fun to do and it's great for a blog to have variety, so I'm giving it a try and if I like it a may do a few more of these :) The app I'm going to review today is Polyvore, a fashion app that I've been really enjoying for a couple of months- it's more of a girl app, and no, it doesn't cost money, and I do not know if it is available to the Google Play Store seeing as I purchased it on iOS.

WHEN I GOT IT + HOW I FOUND OUT ABOUT IT

I downloaded Polyvore about 2 months ago back in October at the peak of Autumn, and I found out about it when I was watching a Fall-themed video by my favorite YouTuber, MyLifeAsEva, and she mentioned Polyvore. It sounded interesting and I thought I'd like it, so I downloaded it soon after and was instantly addicted! I'm telling you, this is the most addicting of apps and you won't be able to put it down the first week.

PROS

-It's completely free to download & use
-You can make sets customized to your style
-There are TONS of different items on the app to heart & use in sets
-They show the prices of the items right on the app, in case you're thinking of buying something
-You can follow other people on the app, which is cool
-It has a sleek design which I really like, ugly apps aren't fun to use
-It doesn't really ever crash, that I know of
-There aren't any ads that I've noticed...
-There is cosmetics, and a lot of it, which you can heart and add to your sets!

CONS

-You need an internet connection to use it, which I don't always have
-There are also home decor items on the app, but I only like the fashion items, the home items kind of get in the way almost?
-I can't even really think of any more cons that's how good this app is.

This is a really great app and I would highly recommend it, I know it is available on iOS but I'm not sure about Android? I want to do another app review soon!

My Top 10 Favorite Apps

Monday, July 27, 2015

Last month, I got a new phone for my birthday, and I LOVE it. It's the iPhone 6 Plus and it's big and beautiful. In fact, it's right next to me, charging away. But with a new phone comes new apps, and I just LOVE LOVE LOVE downloading new apps. It's like a little present, and I start to wonder how I survived so long without the app. Except, I decided to put less apps on my phone than usual, because I don't want to overwhelm the memory, and I'll appreciate the app more than if I had a whole bunch. My sister just has dozens upon dozens of apps, so she's never bored, but I like to keep it simple, although this idea of "simple" might not last very long, because the idea of that many apps appeals to me right now. Also, remember, all apps mentioned in this list are totally FREE. Here are some of my favorites~

1. Crossy Road

Crossy road is so simple and easy, but so addicting! My sister loves this app and so do I, so it gives us something to bond over, and I like collecting all the little characters and getting excited when I have one that she doesn't, or when I beat her high score (my high score right now is 142!!)

2. 1010!

1010!, like Crossy road, is simple, easy, and addicting (seriously, sometimes I can't stop!!) and I've fallen in love with it over the past week. It's similar to Tetris, but different, and I'm constantly trying to beat my top score. I highly recommend this awesome app ;)

3. Words with Friends

I lived without this app for the longest time because I really thought no one would play with me!! But, to my surprise, a lot of my friends and family members also have this app and I convinced my Scrabble-loving grandpa to get the app and we now play together. Even though everyone beats me at this, I love it and would recommend it to everyone who thinks no one they know plays it.

4. Trivia Crack

I'm actually playing this right now as I write this post hahahaha. I am THE QUEEN of both multitasking and procrastination. It's a great app for nerds and common people alike, but most of all, something to bond over. You probably have a parent that loves trivia and YOU, or maybe a sibling, which means that you should totally get this app and prompt them to get it, too. I love playing this with my mum!

5. Home Design Story

This has been an all-time favorite, ever since I got it on my mum's iPad and designed a house that was so fabulous and top-of-the-charts that I was proud of this thing. A few years later, it got deleted, and I forgot about it; that was, until I got my phone last month, and downloaded it a few days ago. I visited my old home and it was awesome. Anyway, I would highly recommend it, along with all of the other Team Lava games.

6. Fantasy Forest

I'm gonna be honest for a second- I used to HATE this game like there was no tomorrow. My sister got it, became obsessed with it, and would not stop talking about it for the longest time. It annoyed me and the music made me want to rip off my ears. But, now that I have the app for myself, I realize that it is quite fun and we can bond over this wonderful piece of joy. 10 out of 10 recommend it.

7. Bloglovin'

If you don't know about this already, it's like the greatest invention/idea in all the history of the earth. It can actually save you more time than you'd think because it allows you to browse new posts from all of your favorite blogs in one feed. It saves me a ton of time, and I put my own blog on there, as well.

8. Paigee World

As an artist, I really like this app for sharing my work. It's like Deviant Art, but more specified to manga, anime and chibi, which is why I like it. It's got a great community, and when I have writers block, it helps me out.

9. Duolingo

This is the most helpful app EVER as far as learning a new language goes. I love earning little Lingots, and getting a streak, and learning something new every day. And it's free to learn! It's really fun, and I can't wait to be fully bilingual with the help of Duolingo.

10. Candy Crush Saga

Yes, I have this app, and no, I'm not totally obsessed with it (like most people). It's fun and challenging, and I'd recommend it for all ages, because it just has the cutest graphics and the feeling of accomplishment when you finish a level is undescribable.

I hope this list prompts you to get some of these apps, because if they're on my Top 10 list, then they MUST be good because I'm rather picky. Don't forget to follow me on Bloglovin', and thanks for reading!
