6 Essie Nail Colors Perfect for Summer

Monday, June 20, 2016

The first day of summer is officially on Tuesday, and everyone's pumped for warmer days and shorter nights and summer nail colors. This isn't a beauty blog, but a couple of bottles of nail polish here and there never hurt anyone.

I love the tropical-summery names for these- find me an oasis? In the cabana? Those are so mood-lifting and beautiful.

Nail Polish Wishlist

Thursday, October 15, 2015

So I've been really into doing my nails lately so that they look nice, since I don't have my hands in the dirt anymore like I did all summer. Now, I can do my nails and all I have to worry about is them getting a little bit chipped, not incredibly dirty with mud under them.... It took me forever to get all the mud out after weeding. Next time I'll wear gloves? (probably not) But I do have a wishlist for more nail polishes, since all I have right now is a tiny box with a couple bottles of nail polish on it. I'll probably do a nail polish inventory in the future and write a post about it, but for now, here's my Pinterest nail polish wish list.

10 Quick Tips About Nail Art

It's Nail Art Saturday again, but this time, in addition to posting pictures to inspire your inner manicurist, I've got a list of 10 tips that will both help you and give you ideas that you wonder why you didn't think of them first. Last week, I used Scotch tape to make geometric accent nails with blue & white, and then painted the rest aquamarine- they came out fabulous and salon-perfect! I just love having dazzling nails because it just kind of makes my day. But, now they're chipping a little bit, and I need to start over, but I don't have much time, so maybe writing this post will motivate me a little bit! (And maybe it will motivate you, too)

Make your own nail decals using the plastic baggie method.1. Make awesome polka-dots with the tip of a bobby pin, as apposed to one of those nail art tools, because bobby pins are cheaper and you probably already have them in your hair (right now).

2. Add some corn starch to a bottle of clear nail polish for a DIY matte top coat. Instructions here.

3. Use the plastic baggy method (pictured to the right) and make some cute nail decals! This would be great for making letters and intricate designs.

4. Use a Band-Aid to create easy polka dots without the extra concentration needed with a bobby pin.

5. You can also use a mechanical pencil to make really tiny dots.

6. Paint over lace or mesh to create an easy design, recommended with white nail polish.

7. Use a white base coat to actually make neon nail polish really POP.

8. Write on your nails with a Sharpie; I do this all the time with my metallic Sharpies, it works great and lasts a really long time!

9. Use an old fan bush to create a striped effect.

10. Finally, stuff a sponge in a jar and soak it in nail polish remover or acetone to make a super easy DIY nail polish remover.

So, what do you think? Inspiring enough for your next manicure session, or are you headed for the salon? Thanks for reading!

5 DIY Nail Art Tips

Wednesday, January 21, 2015

Added Tip: Stripe polish onto a piece of foil or coated paper plate. Swirl/blend with a toothpick where colors overlap. Pick up the color on your sponge & go! Now, even I can do that! ;) ***** Gotta be fast to do this. Maybe too fast for me. But at least now I know how they do it. :) Nails ideasIf you love nail art (I know I certainly do), then you are probably going to like these tips. They can help your nail art look as fabulous as the stuff you see on Pinterest (the stuff they say you can DIY). I hope they help c:

1. While your nails are still a little wet (but not too wet), try dipping them in some icy water (not too icy, but really cold). They'll dry quicker that way.

2. Use Scotch tape to get the most perfect edges. Trust me, tape is going to save your butt on a number of occasions.

3. Use a sponge to create gradient and ombre nails. I've included a tutorial in this blog post c:

4. Stick a bobby pin in a pencil eraser to make an instant nail art dotting tool.

5. Instead of one thick coat, do 2-3 thin coats. They dry faster, and one thick coat is going to get messed up really easily.

More Nail Art (WITH SCOTCH TAPE!!)

Monday, December 29, 2014

I feel like the past few days have been kind of nail art themed... I love nail art, even though I've been totally procrastinating to do my nails. Anyway, these is related to my last post, but this is about doing your nails with Scotch tape. Chances are, you have some lying around, most likely in that junk drawer that you should probably clean out... Okay, now that's on my To-Do list, cleaning out the junk drawer, along with doing my nails. ANYWAY these are some awesome examples of nail art that you can do right now, in your own home, NOT at some nail place. Here's an awesome example, along with the link here:

DIY Super-Easy Nail Art Tips

While on Pinterest today, I came across these awesome nail hacks on Buzzfeed (there was a link on Pinterest) and I thought they were so cool, and that I should post a link. Anyway, here is an example on how to paint a simple heart with nail polish, something cute for Valentines Day... which isn't for 3 months, so quit getting all lovey-dovey. Here is the link, and an example: Easily paint a heart with a toothpick.
