10 Beautiful Kitchens Pins to Inspire You

Sunday, March 19, 2017

It's basically spring (March? Spring? Same thing) so spring cleaning is among us, but you're probably awfully unmotivated- here's some clean kitchen motivation from my Dwell board on Pinterest, and you can go follow me here.

9 Travel Life Hacks for Spring Break 2017

Wednesday, March 1, 2017

Okay so Spring Break is just around the corner, and before you know it it'll be over and you'll say "isn't it February?" but NOPE it's April and you just watched Netflix all week. Here are a couple life hacks for traveling this Spring Break, of which I'll be spending in Costa Rica, and you can keep up with that adventure on my Instagram here.

1. Flying is expensive- so it's good to save as much money as you can. Sunday is the most expensive day to fly, so that saves you quite a bit to start of with, and it's better to book your flights on a Tuesday or a Wednesday, or just sometime in the middle of the week because flights are more expensive if you book them on the weekend because more people are on the computer being random and planning vacations. Also, if you can, remember to book 6-8 weeks in advance- but being spontaneous is ok, too.

2. I've said this once and I'll say it again- download the app for whatever airline(s) you're flying because sometimes you can connect to the planes wifi and watch *free* movies on the plane! This is a big money saver and will fill the empty boring space on your long flights. I know United has an app, and you can also check up on when your flight leaves, what gate it's at, and you can even scan your boarding pass!

3. Hate it when your phone dies on a plane- and there aren't any outlets? Easy. Charge up your computer all the way before you go on the plane and then use that to charge your phone via USB. This is probably one of my favorite life hacks because everyone hates it when your only source of anything and everything just dies.

4. If you're like me and have a super basic black suitcase and looks exactly like everyone else's suitcase, then we're gonna mix up our suitcases, and that's annoying when you just wanna get your luggage from baggage claim and leave. A simple- but somehow unknown- hack for this is to tie a ribbon or cute luggage tag to your bag in order to distinguish it from the others. Mine has a cute little whale luggage tag from the Maui Aquarium, and it helps me see my suitcase when it's in a cluster of them.

5. Pack lightly. If you know you're going someplace where you probably won't be doing any work and won't even have wifi, consider leaving your laptop at home- but this doesn't mean that you shouldn't go prepared. Always bring a raincoat, a pair of tennis shoes and some jeans, no matter how warm it is where you're going!

6. Always (*ALWAYS*) pack your nail polish in a plastic baggie, sealed as tightly as possible, or don't bring it at all. There's no bigger bummer than opening up your suitcase and seeing bright red nail polish all over everything. This is only if you absolutely have to bring it, or just don't bring it at all to avoid disaster.

7. This is relating to the last one, but if you're afraid of your makeup breaking, then just pack a cotton ball or some tissues/toilet paper into your makeup palettes to keep them from breaking and adding another big bummer to your trip (in addition to the nail polish).

8. Keep your nasty shoes (well, assuming you're normal and don't clean your shoes every night with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol) from touching your nice clean clothes by transporting shoes in a plastic bag. This is great on the way back from vacation because I don't know about you, but my vacations include so much dirty, muddy, wet hiking and my shoes are basically destroyed afterwards. Keep your clothes sorta clean by putting those excuses for shoes in a plastic grocery bag!

9. Sometimes, you still have clean clothes at the end of a trip- once in a blue moon, that is- but you end up washing them anyway because your whole suitcase smells like feet and a nasty cargo section of an airplane. And possible nail polish. A simple life hack is to put either tea bags or Unstoppable's In-Wash Scent Boosters into your suitcase, which will absorb the stench and keep everything smelling dandy. Just put the scent boosters into one of those little mesh baggies that earrings come in, and one of those little baggies should be good for the whole bag.

Monday, May 9, 2016

Ever since spring and warm weather got here, I've been seeing less cookie recipes and more detox salad ideas on Pinterest. Though I'd rather have cookies, the detox salads looked rather good, so here are the ones that looked the most delicious to me.

6 Delicious S'Mores-Themed Recipes to Toast Your Marshmallow Heart

Monday, May 2, 2016

When you think of s'mores, what do you think of? Summer nights? Campfires? Chocolaty smiles? I know that there's two whole months to go before we can start summer, but we sure can start thinking about it- and since s'mores are the ultimate summer treat besides watermelon and hot dogs, what better way to spread the vibe?

5. S'Mores Bites by The First Year

6. Deep Fried S'Mores by SugarHero ('MURICA!)

I had to add that last part, because if anything is deep fried that probably shouldn't be deep fried unless you're looking for a heart attack must be from America.

7 DIY T-Shirts for Spring 2016

Thursday, April 28, 2016

There are so many crop tops out there and Brandy Melville tees that can get extremely pricey- and if you're not willing to pick up a couple of five-dollar Old Navy tees, then what are you gonna do, not wear a shirt?? (Don't do that.) So I thought, since I can't just hand out illegal coupon codes, then what better way to give the world awesome, affordable tees for spring (which is halfway over apparently)?

This tutorial is easy, we promise! All you need for this super cute tank top is a pair of scissors...: 1. DIY Bleach Pen Tank Top by The Wedding Chicks

10 DIY Spring-Themed Party Decorations

Tuesday, April 5, 2016

Pinterest (and Instagram, as I've discovered) are just sooooo full of party supplies. Like, it's not even funny- I went on a following binge yesterday morning, as those of you following me on Twitter probably know, and I followed about 20 party supply store accounts. This got me thinking that there are some pretty cute DIY party supplies out there, many of them spring-themed, so why not share them with the world?

7. Pom Pom Cake Topper by How to Delineate Your Dwelling

8. DIY Splatter Paint Balloons by Studio DIY

9. Disco Ball Balloon Weights by A Bubbly Life

10. DIY Balloon Grape Cluster by Celebrations at Home

On the subject of splatter painting (the splatter painted balloons above, which, by the way, are sooooo cute!), I was splatter painting earlier today and was corrected on what terms I was using- it's actually primarily called "action painting", not splatter painting. I have NEVER heard it said that way, nor will I probably ever use that term... It sounds like karate painting.

5 Cool iPhone Photography Tips for Spring 2016

Monday, March 7, 2016

I had the idea that from now on, every season (3 months or so) I'll post five photography tips for that time of year, because I used to write a lot about taking pictures & such but I've noticed that I don't do that as much anymore. Also, I noticed that after this post, we're only 17 posts away from the big 1000 posts! It's a small milestone compared to some bloggers who have 5000 or even 10,000, but it'll be big for us because I've only been blogging for less than two years, so I can't wait to plan an awesome 1000 posts surprise. But for now, today's post~

Free stock photo of nature, purple, garden, flower-When you're taking landscape pictures, use the rule of thirds. The rule of thirds is where you use the subject as one third of the photo, and some blank space as the other two thirds. In this case, you would use the sky as two thirds of the photo. To access the grid (this is only on iPhone, sorry Android users), go into Settings > Camera & Photos > Turn the 'Grid' option on. This will drastically improve your photos, and you'll have fun trying to take pictures with the horizon lining up with the grid.

-To give your photos a Tumblr-y vibe when editing them, simply turn up the brightness & fade a little bit. This is gonna make them look super boho and Tumblr, and they'll be reblogged thousands of times with a simple edit like this. If you want to know what I use to edit my Instagram photos, I use whitagram- it's my favorite editing app ever.

Free stock photo of rocks, stack, river, stones-Shoot in the first hour of sunlight and the last- the lighting will be absolutely perfect and warm and golden, which is why they call this the "Golden Hour". Also, if you're going to be shooting a landmark of some sort that is particularly busy (like the Eiffel tower, for instance) then go in the first hour of sunlight in the morning. It probably won't be too busy, and you'll get an amazing shot of this gorgeous structure with the sun rising behind it.

Free stock photo of flowers, garden, pink, bloom-Use the burst on your iPhone to get the ultimate picture of a subject in motion. It captures 10 frames per second, so if someone is jumping in the air for example, you can get a photo of them right at the perfect moment. To take a burst, hold down the camera button when you're taking a picture, then later pick out your favorite from the bunch.

-When taking pictures of the sunset, consider placing your subject (if there is one) in front of the sun for a more dramatic photo. Doing this will result in a sunburst, where the rays of the sun are coming out behind them, and it will look super Tumblr.

I hope you liked these photography tips for Spring 2016, but if taking pictures isn't your thing, then you can use Pexels for some stock photos you'll fall in love with.
