Bald Eagle Sighting

8$ MountainI was recently hiking with Darwin and Seamus on a trail near Eight Dollar mounatin that has a good view of the river, and some small cliffs you can climb across. Anyway, while standing on a rock overlooking the river, my Dad and I spotted a strange white-headed bird flying over the river, and upon closer observation, we realized it was a bald eagle! Although they are no longer endangered, I found this to be a rather rare find but unfortunately couldn't get any photos; it got spooked and flew behind the hillside when we walked over to get a closer look. I couldn't find any photos of where I was hiking, but here is a picture of Eight Dollar mountain. It is a fairly easy hike going down the trail towards the river, but going up the mountain is a difficult 7-mile hike. If you live in the Cave Junction/Selma area, I recommend you try it out, and it's a perfect walk year-round. Also, there are camping grounds :) Oh, and in case you were wondering why it's called Eight Dollar mountain, it's not because of any fee; it's because a few years ago, a guy hiked up the mountain and totally ruined a pair of $8 boots.
