30 Things I'd Bring With Me to a Deserted Island 2nd Edition

Monday, November 30, 2015

You might not remember, but last year I wrote a post about 50 things I would bring to a deserted island with me, because I thought it would be way more fun to write than 3 things I'd bring to a deserted island with me- and although I was very right, it also took all day to write- and it started to get difficult to think up new things.... But this is a new year, so I'm ready to take this on and go to a deserted island with 30 more things! You can read my old one here. I even copied and pasted the rules that I wrote up last year below.

Anyway, here are the rules: you are fleeing to a deserted island abundant with life because you are escaping from death because a bunch of serial killers are after you. You are going to be there for at least a year, and can bring 30 items with you. Yes, the island has free internet and you have the password. Whatever you are wearing RIGHT now is what you wear to the island, so if you're in PJs, I'd recommend bringing some clothes! Oh, and the island has a bunch of fruit trees and white, sandy beaches. The ocean is not only full of edible fish, but also killer sharks- so be careful! And by that, I mean wait an hour before you get in the ocean after you ate because you could get a cramp :D Also, assuming there are animals on this island, there MUST be fresh water!! There is a picture of what it looks like above.

1. The Mazerunner books, AKA what I'm reading as of this month.

2. My espresso machine because I may or may not get sick of drinking tea all year long.

3. My phone.

4. My charger, assuming there's an outlet somewhere on that island.

5. A generator & an outlet.

6. Shampoo....... 10 gallons of it.

7. Conditioner........ 10 gallons of that as well.

8. A MACHETE

9. A cast iron skillet.

10. A small propane stove.

11. A few kitchen knives.

12. Seeds: carrots, sunflowers, raspberries, green beans.

13. Fertilizer, because my garden needs it ^^.

14. A grill.

15. Charcoal.

16. Unlimited matches.

17. Hot dogs..... No, frankly, I don't really care what they're made of.

18. Sorels- they're durable and they'll last virtually forever, and they work in the rain, snow, sand, mud, etc.

19. HERSHEY'S CHOCOLATE SYRUP

20. 1500 hours of target practice. (how else will I eat)

21. A tent that hangs from the treetops (I saw it on Pinterest, okay? look it up)

22. A bow and a sheath of arrows.

23. A canopy for shelter.

24. A few moleskine journals.

25. Pens.......

26. My toothbrush and 2 things of toothpaste (oral hygiene is important, just sayin)

27. My coziest blankets :)

28. MY CAT!

29. Hair ties.

30. Bobby pins.

Friday DIY Roundup #43

Friday, November 27, 2015

Sorry this one's a little bit late, I've just been kind of busy today and right now is the only moment that I can find time to actually write this post- but HAPPY FRIDAY! Now that Thanksgiving is over, I've already begun the Christmas countdown- 28 more days as of tomorrow. Excited yet?? A few weeks ago when I was in Portland they were already playing Christmas music, over a month before Christmas. Usually I just get into the mood towards mid-December, and we get our tree a few days before Christmas day, usually by the 20th at the latest.

Happy Thanksgiving! + 50 Things I'm Thankful For

Happy Thanksgiving, guys! This is honestly one of the best days out of the year for me, because I have time off from school, and I get to spend my day eating my heart out and being thankful for everything that I have. Every year, I like to write down 50 things that I'm grateful for, whether it be on my blog or in a journal- and I also spend the rest of my day thinking about more things that I'm thankful for. Here are just 50 out of the hundreds that I can think of~

home office..: 1. A roof over my head and a house to surround me, because it froze last night and I don't want to be cold.

2. Lots of food in the pantry and the fridge, so that I don't get hungry during my late night snacking sessions.

3. My family to take care of me and keep me company, and spend time with me every day.

4. A soft little cat to cuddle with me and watch The Walking Dead with me- because no one else will- even if she does kill everything in sight.

5. A comforting cup of tea every morning, to assure me that everything is all right everywhere I go, because it's a part of my morning routine.

love: 6. My laptop so that I can write blog posts and Google my queries and stay up into the wee hours of the night browsing Pinterest.

7. Cozy blankets because I always get cold when I watch Alaska: The Last Frontier.

8. All of my art supplies because I cannot stop creating for even one day.

9. Various notebooks scattered about because I might run out and I must be prepared in case I have to write something.

10. Sketchbooks displaying my improvement throughout the years.

11. My long-distance relatives, because I love visiting them and writing them letter after letter.

12. The way the leaves change colors in the Autumn- where would I be without all of these vibrant oranges and yellows?

A creative little bedroom creative space!: 13. The FMS Photo-A-Day group on Facebook- I just love taking pictures and being motivated by all of the awesome prompts.

14. My iPhone, for supplying me with useless (and useful) apps and a great camera because I take WAY too many pictures.

15. A nice coffee maker so that I could have a caramel latte or a Snickers cappuccino whenever I want and yet I still choose to have a cup of tea every morning.

16. Movies- and a projector + big screen to watch them on.

: 17. My dogs- they are so amazing, and I'm just so thankful to be able to take long walks in the field with them every day.

18. Words with Friends- I love playing with my friends and family no matter where they are.

19. I'm thankful to live in such a nice place, so that I can go outside every day and not be surrounded by pollutants and smoke- and it smells so good here.

20. I love living somewhere where I can go for a hike someplace beautiful that's only 15 minutes away.
mommo design: IKEA FROSTA STOOL HACKS:

21. All of those inspiring blogs out there- I'm loving this post by Boho Berry, she's amazing at bullet journaling and she's motivating me to start.

22. I love the rain. I'm grateful for the way the atmosphere becomes gloomy, and the way the air smells, and how it sounds on a metal roof.

23. I'm thankful for our cows- because they supply us with delicious beef which makes for the yummiest BBQs in the summer time.

24. I love Spotify and all of the music it has because what would life be without music? It wouldn't be that fun, I'll tell ya that...

25. Paigeeworld is definitely something I'm thankful for, because it's really nice to have a fun, positive community that I can share my art with.

26. Bloglovin' is amazing- it's a hassle to have to go to every blog and read them, when I can just read all of their new posts in one app! Thanks, Bloglovin' ;)

10 Delicious Thanksgiving Appetizers

Wednesday, November 25, 2015

Thanksgiving is tomorrow (yay)!!! So if you're hosting Thanksgiving at your house this year, or even if you're not, then maybe people start to get a little hangry (hungry + angry) when the turkey isn't ready right away. So instead of the classic bowl of nuts, or plain old potato chips, maybe go the yummy route and prepare something worth munching on. Also, these are all three-ingredient appetizers, so they're as easy as ever!

Cream Cheese Wonton Dip1. Blue Cheese Pull-Apart Bread by Half-Baked Harvest

2. Cream Cheese Wonton Dip (as shown in photo) by La Creme De La Crumb

3. Goat Cheese Stuffed Mini Peppers by A Spicy Perspective

4. Brie and Cranberry Phyllo Turnovers by Cookin' Canuck

5. Prosciutto Wrapped Asparagus by Culinary Hill

6. 3-Ingredient Hot Caprese Dip by How Sweet Eats

7. Baked Brie with Balsamic Cherries by Averie Cooks

8. Baked Ham & Cheese Rollups by The Comfort of Cooking

9. Spicy Crab Dip by Made From Pinterest

10. Slow Cooker Queso Blanco Dip by Le Creme De La Crumb

These all sound so amazing, and to think they're all only made with three ingredients! Those cream cheese wontons specifically are calling to me, I LOVE cream cheese wontons, and I've never even thought to make them at home even though I make pork wontons all the time. Hungry yet?

6 Photography Tips for Autumn + Winter 2015

Tuesday, November 24, 2015

Hey guys, still on break! I'm super excited for Thanksgiving, which is now only 3 days away, and I'm also really pumped because it's supposed to "snow" (you know, that weird cold white stuff that falls from the sky?) tonight, but I don't believe it'll even hit the ground because it hasn't actually snowed down here at this level in a few years.. so that's pretty sad. But on Sunday I got to go ice skating a couple of hours from here, and that was fun! I'm just hoping it'll snow in the mountains so that my family can go sledding.

Pebble Shore Lake in Glacier National Park, Montana, United States: 1. Not a lot of people know this, but Autumn and Winter are actually some of the best times of the year for photographers because it's usually cloudy without any actual direct light (at least where I live most of the time), which creates a really beautiful soft glow, allowing for amazing photos! See?

2. Rain photography is actually really fun, because you can throw on a black and white filter and it'll look really gloomy and stuff, but you can also add in a pop of color in photoshop if you have something in the photo worthy of color (for example an umbrella- make the whole photo b&w, then go into photoshop and make it whatever color you like so that it stands out).

3. Taking pictures of the water can be really cool, too! Reflections on a lake, river, ocean etc. can be turned around to your advantage, allowing for awesome photos of mountains or maybe sunsets reflecting- double the awesome.

"A cup of hopes and dreams." How cute with the reflection of lights lookin like it's coming from the mug!: 4. Christmas is the time for string lights, and string lights can be manipulated and made into awesome BOKEH PHOTOS! If you don't know what bokeh is (I don't even know how to pronounce it, haha), it's the shape of the lights in your photo that are out of focus. They can be just plain circles, or maybe hearts, or even stars- the possibilities are endless! Use the second photo as inspiration this holiday season and make something amazing.

5. Use limited light to your advantage! When the sun sets, no matter where you are, it usually creates a really nice ombre effect, resulting in colorful photos. Maybe take a picture of the sky straight up, displaying all of the nice colors, with something in the center such as a bird or perhaps some tree tops?

6. Last but definitely not least- sunglasses. No, you don't wear them while taking pictures... well, maybe you do. But that's not the point; you can make amazing ombre pictures with them by taking the photo through the lens of some ombre sunglasses that you are guaranteed to have on hand (and if you don't, pick up a cheap drug store pair, nothing fancy). I have yet to try this one out, but I'm super excited to!

Were these helpful to you in any way? I sure hope so, because these are custom to the Autumn & Winter seasons for the remainder of 2015 and beginning of 2016, and then I have a whole new set of photography trips planned out for Spring & Summer 2016. I can't wait!

How to Be More Productive Over the Weekend

Thursday, November 19, 2015

Weekends are great- like, really great- but they're notorious for being, er, not productive enough. Nothing ever gets done. I just started my Thanksgiving break, which is kind of like on giant weekend, but I have to write practically a novel and it sucks, but it has to get done. There's a ton of stuff in the way of this, e.g. my new favorite addicting app (King of Thieves), FOOD, my cat, ...... yeah. So here are a couple of tips that will help you to crack down and get to work~

tumblr n48akhkbI61rqeb09o1 1280 70 Inspirational Workspaces & Offices | Part 21: 1. Unplug for a bit. No, not your computer, unless you're not working on it. But if you're like me and you charge your phone right next to your computer, either put it somewhere else across the room so that you're not tempted to use it or just turn it off completely.

2. Close ALL additional tabs. I know there are a couple of programs that can keep you from going to certain sites for a certain amount of time e.g. Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, etc. but what you can also do is go into Google and put in a timer for how ever long you'd like. (type in timer 5 minutes, for example) Now just work without stopping until that timer goes off! It's easy as pie.

3. Try going someplace else for a change. Instead of your kitchen table, head to your bedroom for some peace and quiet- or if you're feeling uninspired and NOT productive whatsoever, maybe head to your local Starbucks and chill out there with some calming music and a latte. A simple change of scenery can make all the difference.

4. Like I said above with the change of scenery, put on some headphones and turn on Spotify so that you aren't distracted all the time with your cat meowing or your family chattering away. Block all of that out with a peaceful playlist and finally FOCUS!

5. Finally, clean up your workspace. If you don't, you'll be distracted and driven crazy by the mess and you won't get anything done, trust me. So just take a couple of minutes before you get to work and declutter a little bit and you'll finally finish that blog post or reply to that email without being distracted by the newspapers and dirty dishes in the way of your productivity.

I hope this encourages people to boost their productivity over the weekend, or maybe even over Thanksgiving break- it sure helped me (haha). I just cleaned the entire kitchen, moved my phone across the room, and I'm listening to some serene music.

Top 10 Pinterest Recipes of the Week

Wednesday, November 18, 2015

Aah, finally, I'm back to writing these again! I want to try and do these biweekly, as in every two weeks, but that won't be able to start until next year (as in about 2 months from now, haha) because I already have all of my blog posts laid out and planned up until mid-January. But I love writing these so much, and I feel like you guys kind of love reading them (maybe? I don't get any feedback, guys...) so I want to incorporate them into this blog even more along with Friday Favorites.

5 Fall Ice Cream Recipes

Monday, November 16, 2015

Everyone always says that ice cream is strictly a summer-food, but I disagree strongly with that saying- if anything, summer is the WORST time of year for ice cream! It gets all warm and melty and you get all sticky and the heat just makes that even worse. It cools you off, but not like a nice pool or river does. On the other hand, ice cream is yummy in the fall because you don't have to worry about it melting as easily and you can it inside by the fire after a yummy dinner. Have I convinced you yet??

Happy Friday, guys! I'm leaving in about an hour to go up to Portland, so I thought I could use my time wisely to write this post BEFORE I leave, even though I'll have my laptop with me, just because I didn't think you guys would want another super late post. Normally at this time in the morning I would be getting ready for school, and I could probably leave right now and still get there on time, but luckily that's not happening... Instead I get to write an awesome DIY roundup for you guys- yay!!

My 10 Road Trip Essentials

Wednesday, November 11, 2015

I'm going on a ROAD TRIP this Friday! I know a lot of you who might have driven all the way across the country before wouldn't consider it a road trip, but I'm driving all the way across Oregon, end to end, which takes about 4-5 hours, so I think that's a pretty good road trip- not too long, but long enough that it counts! I'm going to Portland, which is one of my favorite cities, besides Seattle. I go on about 3-4 trips up to Seattle per year, and it takes about 8 hours to get there, so a lot of this stuff is great for the trip up, and some are for downtime in the hotel.

: 1. My sleeping mask! I have a really cute turquoise and lavender sleep mask from Claire's that says "WAKE ME AT NOON" on it. This is for sleeping at the hotel and in the car on the way there.

2. A tiny pillow for sleeping in the car- my sister and I have a set of tiny pillows that we use for just this! I need a pillow in the car, it really helps- I usually sleep almost the whole way there.

3. My phone & charging cord; where would I be without my phone? I usually use it so much on the way there and when I'm bored in the hotel, that I need to bring my cord even if the trip is only for 2-3 days. My earbuds are super necessary, too.

4. A really good book is especially helpful. Right now I'm reading Maze Runner by James Dashner, and I'm so hooked on it! I can't wait to bring it with me to Portland this weekend, I think I'll even finish it.

5. A couple of good snacks for when we get there. I don't know about you, but we only stop for lunch once, and even after that I'm just STARVING as soon as we get to the hotel so I make sure to pack a few granola bars and maybe a cookie for two just for snacks.

6. A sweatshirt or two is soooo helpful. I never know what the weather might be like, so a good sweatshirt, maybe even a raincoat, can be a lifesaver. The weather is predicted to be rainy (my favorite!) in Portland this weekend so I went out and got some umbrellas and my new sweatshirt because it's good to be prepared.

7. A sketchbook is really good for me because I never know when inspiration could strike- plus I have to keep up with requests, and sketching is good for whenever you're bored or stuck in traffic, even.

8. A great playlist can totally turn your trip around! I have my Spotify playlists with me everywhere I go, which means that I can block out the sound of my sister snoring whenever we go on a long trip, plus no one can hear me talk to myself, so it's a win-win for everyone,

9. I don't always bring me laptop with my on trips, but if I do it's just for schoolwork (or Facebook maybe?? *wink wink*) because I might be missing some school along the way. For example, this weekend I'll be bringing my laptop because I have a super long fictional story to write (it's practically gonna be a novel, I swear) by next week and I don't want to get behind.

10. And last but not least, I always have to bring all of my beauty products! My makeup bag doesn't have much, just a couple of tubs tubes of mascara, my BabyLips, some Smith's minted rose and strawberry lip balms, a nail file, a couple of hairties, etc. I also usually through in some dry shampoo, just in case.. ;)

So those are 10 of my road trip essentials! I can't wait for my trip this weekend, I'm sure it'll be lots of fun, but don't expect my Friday DIY roundup until later in the day (sorry).

Tuesday, November 10, 2015

So the second coziest season of all seasons is here, and one of the things that makes Autumn really cozy is the food. Today I've gathered a group of chefs to come into your house and cook for you some yummy recipes that you can make while it's still cold out. Enjoy~

Friday DIY Roundup #40

Friday, November 6, 2015

Happy Friday, guys! This post is a tiny bit late because I have the day off so I thought I would spend it in bed watching Netflix and YouTube.... Let's just say that Jenna Marbles needs to make more videos because there's a *chance* that I watched almost every single one of them. I also practiced Spanish. And finished an episode of Ghost Adventures. And ate a cowboy burger that I loved (!!). And worked on my scarf. And rolled on top of a cat causing her to cut my foot open with some claws that I really should clip later.... Basically, I love my days off.

5 DIY Thanksgiving Decor Part 1

Thursday, November 5, 2015

There's only 21 days left until Thanksgiving (the yummiest time of the year!), so I thought that this year if someone is hosting Thanksgiving dinner, they must have to clean their house- that is, unless it's already clean..... But who keeps their house clean all year round??? Instead of cleaning the house, why not just make some snazzy decorations to cover up that mess? Or you can do both, but that's a little too much effort- I would just rather have the kids make the decor and someone else clean the house while mum & dad make dinner. I'm getting too in depth here- let's get to the decor~

A few weeks ago, I gave my boys Asher and Zephan a mission to find as many perfect acorns with caps intact as they could possibly find. It gave them something to do and it gave me some beautiful natur: 1. How to Paint Acorns (as shown in photo) by Home Stories A to Z

2. Fall Candle Centerpiece by That's What Che Said

3. Fall Mason Jar Vases by Anything & Everything

4. DIY Gobble Gobble Gobble Sign by Hometalk

5. Thanksgiving Burlap & Glitter Placecards by Typically Simple

I'm sure you've noticed that at the top it says PART 1! Yep, that means I'm gonna write another one pretty soon! And I can't wait because this was really fun to look for all the cute DIYs and such- and to think I have much more to share. See you tomorrow, for the DIY roundup!

7 DIY Soda Stream Flavors for this Fall

Tuesday, November 3, 2015

Even though most people love to drink soda mostly in the summer time to cool off, I also like it in the Fall- which means that my Soda Stream is going to get a lot of use. Actually, I love soda all year round, so it get's a lot of use anyway. But I bet a lot of you don't want to actually go out and buy (or order online, in my case) those syrups that are filled with all the bad stuff and can only result in 2 things- cavities and a sugar high. So I decided to collect a few yummy DIY syrups that you can make at home~

Homemade Root Beer Syrup for the rootin-est, tootin-est root beer you'll ever drink! Big thanks to @HankShaw: 1. Root Beer Syrup (as shown in photo) by Foodie with Family

2. Fruit and Herb Flavored Sparkling Water by The Yummy Life

3. Blueberry Lime Soda by The Vegetarianventures

4. Homemade Orange Soda by Simple Bites

5. DIY Key Lime Syrup by Former Chef

6. Make Your Own Cola Syrup by NYT Cooking

7. Homemade Ginger Ale by Epicurious

These all look so yummy, especially #5- I've only had key lime soda once, but it was so good, and a lot more different from lemon-lime soda than I thought it would taste. Maybe it'll be even better if I make it myself!
