12 Essential Resources for Bloggers

Monday, February 29, 2016

Happy Monday, everyone! It's a brand new start to the week and I'm excited to be back into full time blogging, so I thought I'd provide a list of all of the resources that are essentials for professional and amateur bloggers alike. Twelve resources isn't a lot, per se, but I think this list is going to be really helpful.

Free stock photo of apple, desk, laptop, office1. Picmonkey- I've always used Picmonkey. I even wrote a post about Picmonkey here, all about why it's the best and why you should use it instead of Canva. (it wasn't even a sponsored post!)

2. Instagram- Instagram is a crucial blogging tool, because social media is very important to bloggers (by the way you should follow me on Instagram @savannahbby_14). All bloggers should be using Instagram to increase their following!

Free stock photo of sea, sky, bay3. I use whitagram (free on the App store) to edit all of my Instagram photos, but it can be used for blog photos, too, if you're willing to go through the hassle of importing them back and forth.

Free stock photo of leaves, flower, green, closeup4. Wordmark.it is probably one of the most amazing sites in all of internet history- one of them. All you do is type in a couple of letters or words or phrases (or really anything), and it loads that phrase in all of the fonts on your computer! I like to use this when I'm stuck and forgot how many awesome fonts I've downloaded over the years.

5. Pexels (and I know I've said this many times before but I'm gonna say it again nevertheless) is by far THE BEST stock photo site in the entire history of the world ever and don't even argue with me because I'm right. The stock photos used in this post? Pexels.

6. PINTEREST!!!!! If it weren't for Pinterest, I might not even have a blog anymore (well, I might) because it's just the best thing ever. It's great for sharing everything you post and finding fun content for everything you post, like photos and inspiration and just everything.

Pink Kalanchoe7. Evernote is a lifesaver. I'm such a forgetful person, and I'm also a person that loves to make so many lists, so Evernote is honestly the best resource on this list because it allows me to track blog posts and other things to do all in one convenient app.

8. Dafonts is so awesome, I bet I could write an entire post just about how much I love and use Dafonts on a monthly basis. They have (probably) millions of free fonts to download, and I love them. I love them. I love it. This is the best font site ever...

Free stock photo of sea, beach, skyline, waves9. Elle & Co. is an amazing entrepreneurship blog that provides a ton of information about starting and hosting your own blog/business, and they have a ton of information to offer for FREE.

10. Spotify is technically a music service, but I can really get lost in my writing if I'm listening to a good song, which is why I wanted to include this on my list.

11. Google Calendar is a lifesaver. Otherwise known as iCal, or just the default Apple Calendar found on all iPhones, I've been using this for almost a year now to track all of my blog posts and can happily say that it works wonders.

12. I feel like I should include Wonderlass blog because it has helped me so much with just a couple of useful blog posts- it's an awesome blog and they will help you out so much if you're a beginner, or maybe even if you're a full-on professional.

Well, it looks like that was the last post for February- how are we already almost three months (one quarter) into 2016? That's crazy! HAPPY LEAP DAY!!!

Friday DIY Roundup #54

Friday, February 26, 2016

Sometimes, it's okay not to post all week- it's really good to take a break, because once you come back, you're better than ever! I love blogging, and not writing anything all week has made me appreciate how much I enjoy typing and writing what I'm thinking and just writing a blog post for the first time in a while is so invigorating and I love it.

I love all of these, especially the triangle cork board trivets- they look so easy to make, considering you can get a sheet of cork board from the craft store for, like, a dollar.

My Realistic Everyday Morning Routine 2016

Wednesday, February 24, 2016

If you've been on YouTube lately (or ever) then you know that tons of girly YouTubers love to post their morning, day, and night routines. They're super popular and really fun to watch, so I thought I'd start a tradition where every year/season I could post a morning routine and maybe even a night routine. Sorry I haven't posted the last two days but I've been sick :( Enjoy~

Free stock photo of food, healthy, morning, cereals-The first thing I do every morning when I wake up at 7:30 am is make my bed- no matter what, I make sure it looks nice before I get out of it. Even though no one can see it and no one knows you did it, YOU know you did it and it makes you feel like a good person.

-I like to get dressed as soon as possible because it honestly makes me feel more productive, and besides there's no point in sitting around in your pajamas all day (like someone I know...).

Free stock photo of coffee, cup, mug, bed-Next, I just do my makeup (light mascara) and hair (brush, dry shampoo, style if necessary) and head downstairs to start my day.

Croissants and strawberry for breakfast-It's about 7:40 now, so I turn my computer on and make myself a steaming cup of Prince of Whales Premium Black Tea so that I can get to work. This can take a while sometimes because this is around the time my cat wants to come inside and bug everyone and ask to come in and out a million times a second. Did I mention she needs to be fed?

-Next I start writing my blog post, which can take anywhere from fifteen to thirty minutes, depending on the number of distractions and how long it is.

-When I finish my blog post, it's about 8:15 am so I get my shoes and jacket on, but there's no hurry because we don't leave for another 20 minutes and my sister takes forever to get ready. It takes her a half an hour on average to get ready, so we all wait and wait and wait for her.

-Finally I leave for school at around 8:35 am and even though it was only an hour long, it felt like a good, long morning.

So that's my complete morning routine, and I can't wait to do another one for the summer time and a night routine as well. Happy Hump Day!

Friday DIY Roundup #53

Friday, February 19, 2016

Ah, another Friday, another weekend. This is the first two-day weekend I've had in a while, because I had a three-day weekend most recently and a four-day weekend before that. I guess it will be nice to get back into a routine, though- and did you know that Spring Break is only four weeks away? That's really soon! But for now, I'm going to enjoy the wind and the rain (seriously I'm surprised the power hasn't gone out yet) before the white sandy beaches.

10 Oreo Dessert Recipes For You to Fall in Love With

Thursday, February 18, 2016

Oreos are my favorite thing in the whole world. Some people like the cream best, others prefer the cookie, but I think they go together perfectly- a blend of sweet, creamy goodness and a little bit of chocolaty crunch, which all turns into a little bite of heaven when you dip it into a tall glass of ice cold milk. Since they're so good by themselves, I've compiled a list of other recipes that involve Oreos to make your life so much better.

Top 10 Pinterest Recipes of the Week

Wednesday, February 17, 2016

This is becoming a Wednesday tradition, and I'm gonna let it- it's not my fault I just happen to have a post that's not going to work out scheduled for every Wednesday, and have these for every other Wednesday. By the way, happy hump day! It feels like Tuesday because the day before last was a holiday, turning yesterday into Monday and therefor shortening my week in every way possible. I've been noticing in previous posts that I do too much sweets, so I'm going to really try to balance it out this time~

7 Places Around the World I Want to Visit

Tuesday, February 16, 2016

On people's bucket lists, travel is one of the main categories. In fact, I don't think people put anything else on there, besides skydiving and special foods. I've always had a list of fun places I'd like to visit before I die, and just recently (a month ago? Two months? I can't remember) I made a travel board on Pinterest after discovering so many beautiful photos of amazing places around the world. Here are the top 7 places that I thought I'd share so that you can add them to your list, too~

Paris in the fall: 1. Melbourne, Australia

I've been wanting to go to Australia for as long as I can remember, and what better place to go than Melbourne? Obviously I would explore a little bit more, maybe drive around a bit, but mostly I would just rent a house and relax on the beach. I'm not the kind of person that explores every little thing.

2. Paris, France (as shown in first photo)

This one is a no-brainer, but I'm not visiting it because it's "the most romantic place in the world"- I want to eat the food! But instead of visiting in spring or summer like most people, I'd go in the fall, because there won't be as many tourists and the colors would be just gorgeous.

3. Tokyo, Japan (as shown in second photo)

Shinjuku’s Kabukicho during daytime | 21 Cozy Photos From Tokyo's Hidden Bars: I've always wanted to visit Tokyo- always. I've been watching Miyazaki movies since I was a baby, and in fact just got a bunch of Japanese toys & nik naks for Valentine's Day. This is my dream, and I will make it to Japan if I have to walk there never mind Japan is an island.

4. London, England

This is my next stop after Paris, and I'll be going to all of these European places with my mum because a. She grew up in England and b. she loves the food there and I can't bring back enough for her to eat. Ah, London- home of Sherlock, my mother's memories, and tea time at four o'clock.

5. Bora Bora (as shown in third photo)

Bora Bora is the real deal. Wish I was there right now... #travel #omg: This one is an underrated place with not as many tourists as Fiji and other tropical places like Hawaii and the Bahamas, but it's, like, ten times as amazing. There is a person that might be reading this right now that really wants to go to Fiji someday (with me probably) and will be screaming their head off that Fiji isn't on this list. Long story short, Bora Bora is tiny- only about a mile wide, and two miles long.

6. Santorini, Greece

My mother's second favorite place? Greece. She LOVES Greek food. She could live off of it. Greece is so beautiful, with the colors and the streets and the beaches, I could just live there. Honestly, most places in Europe are beautiful.

7. Costa Rica

This has been on my family's vacation list for a while, and for years now my dad has been saying that we would go- but still, we never have. It's a very tropical place, though, with white sandy beaches and clear turquoise water.

Those are the seven places that are all on my bucket list, and that I wish to visit someday- hopefully with friends.

Friday DIY Roundup #52

Friday, February 12, 2016

Ah, another three day weekend- the highlights of my year. Do you even know how nice it is to wake up at 7:30 on a Monday, and just fall right back asleep because you know that no responsibilities await you out the door? Unfortunately, my English teacher has ruined this crucial, life changing, once-in-a-lifetime three-day weekend with homework. Can you even imagine? Happy Early Presidents Day!

Study Tips for Taking Better Notes This Semester

Thursday, February 11, 2016

I don't know about you, but at the school I go to, we just got into a new semester- new classes, new homework. We're into the middle of the year now, so you're kind of used to everything, like taking notes during a video. We don't take notes during lectures or anything, just videos (which can be even harder sometimes). I've got a couple of tips for taking good notes, and then what to do with those notes (depending on the assignment).

BEFORE~

Free stock photo of mountains, nature, hiking, travel
-First, think about what you're going to be writing about and how much space it will take up. I HATE it when it's the middle of the video, and I run out of space on my paper, so I have to waste priceless seconds to get out a new sheet of paper, and then I miss something very important. So grab a couple of sheets of paper, and also use a pen instead of a pencil if you can, so that there's no worries about having to sharpen it if it breaks. (use a reliable pen!)

-Don't skip lines. Yes, it makes it look neat, but you're also wasting valuable space and this is pretty much why you're ending up using twice as much paper as you need. Fill the lines, save trees.

Free stock photo of mountains, nature, sunset, palms-You know how right before a workout you do a bunch of stretches, to prepare? It's the same with taking notes. Your hands will surely get cramped up, so give them some mini stretches.

-Give it a good title and the date, so that if someone asked what day you guys took notes, you can tell them. Plus, you probably have, like, a gazillion different notes in your locker so a title will help you out (don't just write "NOTES"). Do something like "Revolutionary War Vid Notes, Feb 11".
Free stock photo of light, sea, dawn, nature

AFTER~

-When you're all done and have multiple pages of notes all done and you're super proud of yourself, staple it. Don't just use a paperclip, their measly and weak, and will fall off and plus they'll just get lost or something. Staples are forever.

-Put them someplace safe where you'll remember where they are, because the last thing you want to happen is to lose 5 pages of double sided notes which can't be replaced because you took the most notes out of the whole class. DON'T. LOSE. THEM.

Free stock photo of coffee, cup, drink, espresso-Meet up with your friends afterwords, like on the weekend or something, for a study session. Compare notes and write down everything they have that you don't have. You can never have too much, and plus you could be helping someone else out. Discuss anything you don't understand. Study sessions can be super helpful, and you'll thank me afterwards.

-*OPTIONAL* If you have very messy handwriting (like me), then it's gonna be even messier when you're writing down a million things at once at the speed of light, so grab some fresh paper and rewrite everything if it's something that someone else will be reading later.

These should help you out a lot, and if not, then just remember- only 5 more months until all of this is over :)

Top 10 Pinterest Recipes of the Week

Wednesday, February 10, 2016

Good Morning, and did you know that it's HUMP DAYYY! The week is moving by slowly, but there is no school this coming Monday, which means that a. I get a 3-day weekend, and b. I get a four day week! It makes my week so much better in so many ways. I know last week I said I might only write these every other week, but I love them and it felt like the right thing to do.

5 Valentines Day Gift Ideas for Him & Her

Tuesday, February 9, 2016

I know I just posted something exactly like this yesterday, but this one is actually going to be a little different. These are just a couple of ideas if you're stuck on what to do, and don't have the time for DIYs. All of these are perfect for him OR her, and none of them are fancy diamond rings or anything like that~

Free stock photo of sea, beach, holiday, vacation1. A candy gift basket. This one is awesome for that one person in your life that has a sweet tooth, and it's super simple, it only costs about $10-20 (depending on the candy you're getting and the size of the basket!). Just pick up a simple little basket from your local craft store, I assure you they're only, like, $2. Then pop on over to the grocery store and find every kind of candy that they like- Snickers, gummy bears, gummy worms, Red Hots, Dum Dums, etc. I would find some tissue paper or even pink/red Easter grass as a filling, and then you're done!

Free stock photo of heart, coffee, mug, cappuccino
2. Have you and your partner been wanting to adopt (an animal..... not a baby), but just haven't really gotten around to it because you're both so busy? Well, this would be the time to do it. Go to your local shelter, or maybe even vet, because I got my cat at our local veterinarian's office after she was abused and soon abandoned as a kitten. We didn't pay a penny for her, and now I can't live without her! But if you're surprising them, I would pick up some food, dishes and toys (kitty litter optional?).

Free stock photo of love, heart, sun, warmth3. A subscription to their favorite magazine would be awesome, especially if you like that magazine, too. For father's day last year, my mom got my dad a subscription to a building magazine, so it doesn't just have to be VOGUE or something like that; it works for him AND her. This is kind of like getting them a gift every month!

4. Get them a personalized gift basket. This one goes beyond the standard candy one, because it can have anything in it- their favorite cookies, their favorite soda, a magazine, maybe some bath salts (for her), a gift card perhaps, earbuds, etc. This can be as simple or as extravagant as you want- from gift cards to iPads, they will appreciate this because only you know what their favorites are.

Free stock photo of love, heart, yellow, photography5. Finally, just be sweet and wake up a little early, and go out and get them coffee. Run to the local Starbucks, grab their favorite drinks & scones, then drop by the store for a couple of little things that they would like- pick up groceries maybe. Then, when they wake up, they'll be delighted to see that their significant other will have thought of them and gotten them their favorite coffee. Just sit and eat breakfast together.

These are just a few ideas, and feel free to expand off of them and make Valentines Day 2016 the best one yet.

Friday DIY Roundup #51

Friday, February 5, 2016

Yes, I'm posting this in the middle of the afternoon instead of 9 o'clock in the morning like I usually do- but that's just because I don't have classes today so I get to go hiking and drink some coffee and watch YouTube and do my nails and curl my hair and play on my phone all day because I never get to do that (on a Friday). Not to mention it's such a nice day for February- and in Oregon, that's something that deserves to be enjoyed. But anyway, happy Friday!!! <3 b="">

15 blog Post Ideas for Lazy Days

Thursday, February 4, 2016

Last week I posted about how to be productive on lazy days, and also how to get the most out of your morning, so by now you should really know how to turn a seemingly calm and lazy day into a beautifully productive day. One problem with lazy days is that you can't even think of anything to write because your brain is turned off and you don't want to be bothered with turning it back on, so I'm providing a couple of ideas because I'm just that nice :)

Free stock photo of nature, water, blue, lake-Write a post on how you got started blogging. What platform did you use, what topics did you focus on, and why did you start blogging? Readers love a good backstory.

-Roundup a couple of helpful links, with a common theme. For example- morning routines, or blogging tips, or SEO tips, or just recipes.

-Share a behind-the-scenes look at where you work, whether it's a studio or an office, or just your couch. Show rough drafts and things in the process, and how the posts come to be. I LOVED it when Rhett and Link's crew started doing this, but it works for bloggers, too.

Free stock photo of city, sky, clouds, skyline-Make a list of all the little things in life that make you happy. This sounds kind of silly, but it'll be meaningful to your readers, and it's just gonna put everyone in a good mood.

-Share a favorite recipe. Everyone loves a good apple pie, or maybe some homemade ice cream, or just the secret to a good coleslaw.

Free stock photo of man, desert, dry, rocks-Share a day-in-the-life post! These are super fun to read, and all you have to do is write down what you did all day and post it (include photos please).

-Write about the pros and cons of your blogging platform. I can't wait to do one of these for blogger, I love it a lot, so this should be fun. LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

Free stock photo of sea, sunset, woman, clouds-Share what you have on your phone. I always want to know what apps people have, because downloading new apps is one of my favorite hobbies...

-A day in the life of you is great, but a day in the life of your pet is even better- especially if you're writing from the pet's point of view. I'm sorry but I can't remember who, but a blogger did this and it was wonderful, I loved it so much. I must find it again!

Free stock photo of landscape, mountains, nature, hills-Roundup and highlight the stuff you can't blog without (e.g. apps, coffee, Google Calendar, specific websites, random tools).

-Write some tips about something you're an expert at, like knitting, cooking, exercise, writing, painting, etc.

-WORKOUT ROUTINE!!! I loved Alisha Marie's and Eva's workout routines on YouTube, they were fun to watch and they motivated me to get out more.

Free stock photo of road, landscape, nature, forest-Your favorite YouTubers, of course. You know that joy that floods your body whenever you discover a new channel that is amazing and you can't wait to binge watch them? Well, share the happiness :)

-Explain the meaning behind your blog/business name. Some of them are straightforward, but others have a deep and hidden meaning waiting to be shared. Even if you've written about it before, write a new one for your new readers.

-Just have someone else guest post for Pete's sake. You deserve a day off, and that's what guest posts are for- people who need to stop writing for one day.

So there you go, a couple of posts for the days that your brain is turned off <3 b="" nbsp="">

Top 10 Pinterest Recipes of the Week

Wednesday, February 3, 2016

Yay, another one of these! I want to try to do these every other Wednesday, it's just a really good day for this (I don't know why so don't ask), since every single week is too big of a commitment for me to remember to stick to... Also I really need to remember to schedule more posts, because I'm only ready up until April and it's already February- that means we're two months away from running out of stuff to write.

7 Fresh Salsa Recipes

Tuesday, February 2, 2016

I love salsa so much- but I hate tomatoes. You know? Like, some people don't really like avocados that much, but will kill for some guacamole (whoops, you didn't know guacamole was made out of avocados? Never mind.........). Although sweet salsa is pleasing and different, traditional hot salsa is wonderful and I just love spicy things. Green salsa is one of my favorites, but sometimes it all comes down to the chip- something not too thick and crunchy, but kind of greasy, like Chevys chips. I loved Chevys chips, they were perfect, and made me want to go back for more. Now I want Mexican food.......

Fresh Salsa Recipe ~ This recipe is one of my favorites. It has strong, fresh flavors and perfect seasoning... fabulous!: 1. 5-Minute Restaurant Style Salsa by The Chunky Chef

2. Rainbow Salsa (as shown in photo) by Gimme Some Oven

3. The Best Ever Roasted Salsa by Yummy Healthy Easy

4. Super Easy Salsa Verde by Chef Savvy

5. Black Bean and Corn Salsa by She Wears Many Hats

6. Fresh Salsa (as shown in photo) by Lulu the Baker

7. Chipotle Pico De Gallo Salsa Recipe by Lexie's Kitchen and Living

These all sound amazing, especially the black bean & corn salsa, black beans do wonders to good salsa! Just don't forget cilantro & fresh jalepenos, if you're making restaurant style (my favorite).
