Friday DIY Roundup #62

Friday, April 29, 2016

After a week of sun, clouds, rain and unsure weather, it's finally going to be warm this weekend. Personally, I'd rather it rained, but 70 degree weather works too! But ugh, how is April already over??? April Fools Day was practically yesterday, and now you're telling me it was four weeks ago.

7 DIY T-Shirts for Spring 2016

There are so many crop tops out there and Brandy Melville tees that can get extremely pricey- and if you're not willing to pick up a couple of five-dollar Old Navy tees, then what are you gonna do, not wear a shirt?? (Don't do that.) So I thought, since I can't just hand out illegal coupon codes, then what better way to give the world awesome, affordable tees for spring (which is halfway over apparently)?

This tutorial is easy, we promise! All you need for this super cute tank top is a pair of scissors...: 1. DIY Bleach Pen Tank Top by The Wedding Chicks

How I Edit My Instagram Photos

Tuesday, April 26, 2016

There are countless blog posts + YouTube videos out there about how people edit their Instagram photos- because everyone wants to have the perfect account, with everything matching. Let's face it, Alisha Marie's Instagram is more put together than most of our lives... So what do I use?

APPS I USE

YAS!: I'm kind of picky when it comes to my photo editing apps, so these should all be both free on the app store (not sure about Google Play store) and definitely very useful:

-VSCO, basically what all the Insta-queens use; it was free for a limited time (and might still be) because of the Apps for Earth thingamabob.

-Whitagram, this has everything that you might need with the exception of fabulous filters; you can leave that up to Instagram itself and VSCO.

-Fontcandy is what I use for making inspirational quotes and masked text, VERY easy to use and also has a few filters that I've grown to liking. 10/10 would recommend.

-Retrica is a great live-filter option if you're looking to brighten up your photos and are looking for a quick fix when you don't have time to sit through an editing session. Awesome for selfies, I might add ;)

-Layout is an app made by Instagram, and it's just for making collages with your photos, though I don't use it a lot it's really useful when I do use it.

FILTERS I USE

little things: So, what filters am I into? Here they are, organized by app~

VSCO: I'm a strong C1 girl myself, and love using F2 from time to time- but really, who can't resist a good P5??

WHITAGRAM: Let's be honest, these filters are tacky and absolutely terrible (unless they're toned down and used lightly), but if I had to choose, Dean and Keylime are great, as long as they'e toned down a lot.

FONTCANDY: So, when you're in editing mode, there's a toolbar at the bottom and you can find "Image" at the far right. This will give you a couple of filters, and the second one right after original is really cute and is awesome for just a little touch up.

RETRICA: The filter I use primarily on Retrica is called Shine, it's super bright and cute and perfect for just a little Tumblr-vibe touch up in your photos.

EXTRA TOUCHES

healthy food: -Don't you hate it when you're picture isn't perfectly square so you have to crop it in order to put it on Instagram, but you really don't want to crop it? Whitagram adds a little white frame so that your photo is always the perfect size.

-On Whitagram, I always like to bring up the fade because it gives it such a Tumblr vibe and it'll just really improve your photo a lot.

-Also, I usually increase the brightness, contrast, warmth/coldness, saturation, highlights + shadows because it really makes the photo look so much better.

I hope this helped you out at least a little bit, because I'm always wondering what appsother people use and what filters they use, especially the Insta-queens (which I'm not... YET)

10 DIY Bath Bombs

Monday, April 25, 2016

If there's one thing that's unnecessarily abundant on Pinterest, it's bath bombs. Every single day there's new bath bomb recipes in my news feed- seriously, who needs this many bath bombs? Probably everyone since bath bombs are da bomb, no pun intended, so since this month we're going with the theme of calming baths and lazy days- here are some simple bath bombs that you can make at home.

Friday DIY Roundup #61

Friday, April 22, 2016

"I got this feeling on a summer day when you were gone..." is how I'm starting this Friday morning off. Comment below if you know what song that is ;) Spotify is the best thing ever, it's so much better than Pandora, with the exception of limited skips (which I don't really mind all that much). Spotify on Friday mornings is the best way to start off a three-day-weekend, along with DIY Roundups!!

6 DIY + Printable Planners

Thursday, April 21, 2016

I recently got one of those cute little pink calendars from Michaels, the really simple-looking ones with holes so that you can insert them into a larger planner, and it's so cute! It got me thinking that you don't see a lot of DIY planners out there, which sucks because if I'm gonna start a planner, it would be really fun to make it yourself. Note: a lot of these are YouTube videos, because DIYs are so much better in video form.

Top 10 Pinterest Recipes of the Week

Wednesday, April 20, 2016

Another three-day-weekend is ahead of us, but this time it won't be as hot and sunny as the last- we're looking at more rainy days! Rainy days make Stephen King books more fun to read, they make the soil smell like spring, they make you want to bake something, and drink hot chocolate after a long walk through the rain while you sit and play Jenga while you wait for whatever you're baking to be done. Need something to bake/cook this weekend

6 Earth Day Themed Treats

Tuesday, April 19, 2016

This Friday is EARTH DAY! I love Earth Day, every year it's so much fun to plant things, do the recycling, and get started on our veggie garden. It's forecast to rain, which is great because the more rain, the more things grow. But when it rains, it's also a great day for baking- so why not make a few earth day themed goodies?

10 Cake Recipes Because Everyone Loves Cake

Monday, April 18, 2016

Cake- it's something to look forward to, to savor, to celebrate with and to love. You love it because there's so many varieties and Pinterest just happens to have half a million cake recipes, and I thought it would be proper to share a couple of my favorites because who doesn't like cake? Friday DIY Roundup #60

Who wants to bet that I've probably posted more Pinterest Recipes of the Week than DIY roundups? Because let's be serious here, I feel like I've written more of those than these. The power was out the other night, which was really nice, because I love when that happens- aside from there being no WiFi and no way of being able to charge my phone, reading by the candlelight and playing Jenga as the sunlight slowly fades is super relaxing and I hope we have more thunderstorms soon.

10 of My Favorite Shows + Movies on Netflix

Wednesday, April 13, 2016

Netflix is your movie night go-to, your weekend best friend, and snuggling under the covers with your laptop all rolled into one, and the secret ingredient...... is Wi-Fi. You thought I was gonna say love, weren't you? So many people right now have no idea what to watch on Netflix, probably because the options are endless and you just don't know what to do with this much TV. Here are my favorites~

*SHOWS*

via @immyandindi on Instagram http://ift.tt/1i3caVN:
1. Friends

It's a classic, and can never fail to make me laugh- plus there's so many episodes, it'll keep you going for a while.

2. Grey's Anatomy

I just started watching this one because some friends recommended it, and                         it's surprisingly addicting. It has everything you need in a show- a love triangle, someone with a baby on the way, and never ending death (it takes place in a hospital FYI).

3. Parks & Recreation

: OH MY GOD THIS IS GOOD. It's hilarious, like, seriously really funny, but it's also about government workers (but not all of them actually get any work done??), and you will probably be quoting it until the end of time.

4. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

This is also very funny. It takes place in New York, with this one girl who is completely clueless about modern things because at a young age she was kidnapped and held underground blah blah blah it was a whole thing that actually happened, but anyway it's too funny not to miss, and bonus- it's a Netflix original ;)

5. Switched at Birth

How could I forget about this one? Like Grey's Anatomy, it's a drama, but as you can probably tell by the name it's about two people who were switched at birth. Of course, this spirals into a whole thing, that involves lots of sign language and lots of Latin people.

6. LOST

pinterest: pxrxdise ☼:
Clearly, if we're including the classics here, then we're gonna need some LOST. It's actually pretty good, I like the plot a lot, but it's just not getting me hooked. Once a couple more people die, though, I'll be watching the show whole seasons at a time.

7. Fuller House

OH MY CHICKEN POT PIE HOW COULD I EVEN FORGET THIS ONE? This is seriously due for another season, hands down. It is probably the best thing that Netflix has ever done, but they need to make a lot more, really soon. It's so good, I watched the entire first season in one day.

*MOVIES*

8. Lilo & Stitch

Before you yell at me for including a Disney classic in here, this is the best Disney movie ever and deserves recognition. I am literally holding a Lilo & Stitch stuffed animal right this second. If there's any fandom I'm a part of, it's Lilo and Stitch.

9. Legally Blonde

pinterest: Miiaa☽☾: I've probably watched this like 50 times in the last year or so, but that's because I love the idea of a prissy blonde going on to be a lawyer at Harvard Law School, especially since that prissy blonde happens to be Reese Witherspoon.

10. Legally Blonde 2

....no explanation needed, except for whAT THEY MADE TWO OF THEM???

Time for me to go on yet another Netflix binge, eating Kraft Mac + Cheese trying to figure out how to get this Copic ink off of my hand???

Reverse Bucket List- What I've accomplished So Far

Tuesday, April 12, 2016

You've heard of the classic bucket list- everything you want to do before you die. So many bloggers have published these before, but the new trend is a reverse bucket list, which is everything they have either crossed off of their bucket list so far, or just done that's amazing but wasn't really even on your bucket list for some reason. I'm excited to share mine, and update it in the near future (hopefully!). Here's everything I've done so far~

to the beach: -Gone out of the country

-Flew to Mexico & the Bahamas and learned about their cultures

-Been to three of the many Hawaiian islands (more to come?)

-Started & maintained a blog over the course of a couple of years

-Went to the Fare Thee Well Grateful Dead concert in Santa Clara

-Went to the biggest aquarium in the world (Atlanta, GA)

-Snorkeled with the most colorful fish ever, and chased a puffer fish (don't do that)

-Taken road trips to Seattle, Santa Clara, and Los Angeles

g o o d v i b e s: -Gone to the Pike Place Market many times in Seattle (probably one of my favorite places in the world)

-Helped someone work out to lose weight, acting as a sort of personal trainer

-Driven up to Tannen Lake, a nearby lake in the mountains- the most beautiful lake I've ever seen.

-Helped tutor other kids because I'm supposedly smart and nice like that.

-Went to the Anzo Borrego Desert state park in Southern California, WOW.

That's all for now, but if I remember anything, I'll add it later- can't wait to update this. Fun fact- the first picture of the beach looks exactly like the beach we went to in Kona, HI where you could just walk down the stairs from your hotel and there it was; paradise.

8 Recipes for the Tea Time Lover

Monday, April 11, 2016

Everyone loves teatime- 4 o'clock, every day, no matter what. It's a time where you can sit down and sip your Earl Grey in peace, with yummy little snacks being the only thing to accompany you (and maybe the occasional cat). If you want to DIY your own teatime at home, then teacakes and biscuits are the most important part~

Friday DIY Roundup #59

Friday, April 8, 2016

Yay, spring is here and for once it actually feels like it! At least, up until Sunday it does- because on Sunday it's forecast to be cloudy and cold once again, and then it might rain next week?? At least we had some warm weather; it was good while it lasted. 93 degrees F is pretty much record breakingly awesome for April in OREGON. OREGON, PEOPLE! 5 Ways to Have the Most Relaxing Day Ever

Wednesday, April 6, 2016

Last week, I published a post about how to have the most relaxing bath ever- but why focus on one little bath when you can go all out and post about the whole day? Consider this the ultimate guide to being relaxed~

«InfinityStar_13»: -First of all, this relaxing day needs to happen on a day where you don't have to work or go to school or get up and go someplace at all- this day is Sunday. Sunday mornings are the most relaxing things ever (according to science, of course), and you don't have to worry about going out that night or going shopping that day or staying up late, like Saturdays. I LOVE Sundays soooo much.

-Now you need the essentials. This is a list of things you can't have a lazy day without~

-Magazines- Teen Vogue, Vogue, People and any other fashion or  celebrity gossip magazines work well, unless you're more of a Nat  Geo person.
-Comfort food; diets aren't very relaxing (but I guess you don't have to follow this rule if you    don't want to.....) This will consist of Doritos, Oreos, Fritos, Chips Ahoy and cheesecake for  desert!
☹ pinterest: @tinysatanx ☻:   -Either a laptop or a TV, either will do, also iPads (or any other tablets for that matter) and  your phone will work well. How else are you gonna Tweet about how relaxed you are while  catching up on Grey's Anatomy on Netflix?

-A cuppa tea will do you some good. If you're living in a hot climate, then iced tea will work wonderfully, but if you're like me and it's cold 75% of the year then a hot cuppa black tea it is.

-YOUTUBE MARATHON! Once you start getting sick of Netflix (as if) then you basically just watch every single video in your subscription box. If you're like me, then you're too busy all week to have time to watch YouTube except for one or two vlogs, so there's basically a week or more's worth of videos waiting to be watched.

«InfinityStar_13»: -Remember what I said above about having a cuppa tea? Well, I take that back, because not everyone has tea on hand (let alone LIKES tea), so if that's the case then pop over to your local Starbucks/Dutch Bros/favorite coffee shops for a latte, then grab an iced drink, too and put it in the fridge for later because no one should have to leave the house more than once on a lazy day.

-To wind down your day, have a spa night! This is the best thing ever, just grab everything you need: Lush everything, nail polish, face mask, etc. and a movie playing in the background (my spa pick of the week: Legally Blonde!!!). Pamper yourself- you'll thank me.

Finally, fall asleep with a cat by your side, watching Legally Blonde 2, knowing that you had the best day ever and that you can now tackle the stressful week ahead of you.

10 DIY Spring-Themed Party Decorations

Tuesday, April 5, 2016

Pinterest (and Instagram, as I've discovered) are just sooooo full of party supplies. Like, it's not even funny- I went on a following binge yesterday morning, as those of you following me on Twitter probably know, and I followed about 20 party supply store accounts. This got me thinking that there are some pretty cute DIY party supplies out there, many of them spring-themed, so why not share them with the world?

7. Pom Pom Cake Topper by How to Delineate Your Dwelling

8. DIY Splatter Paint Balloons by Studio DIY

9. Disco Ball Balloon Weights by A Bubbly Life

10. DIY Balloon Grape Cluster by Celebrations at Home

On the subject of splatter painting (the splatter painted balloons above, which, by the way, are sooooo cute!), I was splatter painting earlier today and was corrected on what terms I was using- it's actually primarily called "action painting", not splatter painting. I have NEVER heard it said that way, nor will I probably ever use that term... It sounds like karate painting.

Pros + Cons of Using Blogger as a Blogging Platform

Monday, April 4, 2016

When I first started blogging, I immediately went to Blogger to use as my platform- it's the best for starting out on, it's run by Google (Google is bae, in case you didn't know), and it's completely free. Lately, though, I've been considering converting to Wordpress because it looks so much easier to use, although it's sad to say goodbye to Blogger whom I've been using for so long, and they work so well. But if you'd like to switch to Blogger, then here are the pros & cons I've noticed over the years.

(also- sorry for not posting on Thursday! I was really busy all week.)

Free stock photo of coffee, cup, mug, bedPROS

-It's completely free, no catch (unless you pay for Google AdSense)

-It's really easy to use and get used to, you don't really get confused at all.
Stones Near the Beach Seashore during Day Time
-It shows you how many page views you have, the countries that view your site the most and what posts are the most popular.

-There are TONS of awesome widgets to add to your site, also all free to use and ridiculously easy to add.

-So far, my blog has never crashed or not worked, though the blogger dashboard has been down a few times, but not recently.

CONS
Free stock photo of pineapple, fruit, tropical
-There are a couple of limits when it comes to customization. This doesn't mean you can't make a professional-looking beautiful blog, it's just that it won't look exactly like what you were going for- which is why downloadable templates are your best friend. But if you're not up to downloading a pretty template (they're usually free, here's where I got mine)

-They have an app, but it's not free! No siree, it used to cost nothing to blog on the go, but now they've come out with a new and improved app with much better features than the old one- but they charge you for it?!

Free stock photo of beans, coffee, brown, roasted-You don't own your site with Blogger, Google does. This means they have the right to shut it down or restrict your access to the site at any time, so that kind of sucks.

-Blogger has not been updated in a very long time, and Google may or may not shut it down in the future (hopefully not, oh my god!).

I've decided I really don't want to move my blog to WordPress, Blogger is where it belongs and I don't plan on just abandoning Blogger anytime soon. It's like Blogger is this cute little Starbucks, and everyone loves the coffee and the atmosphere, but just down the street is another coffee shop, but this one is independent (AKA WordPress) and everyone goes there all the time, and they like it because there's more of a variety of coffee selections. It's way bigger and there's way more people, so they get a lot of business! It's okay, Starbees, I'll never leave you.

Friday DIY Roundup #58

Friday, April 1, 2016

So it's Friday, and guess what this isn't going to be a DIY Roundup.... APRIL FOOLS! You guys know I couldn't write anything other than a DIY Roundup on a Friday. But there's something even more exciting than April Fools in this post- this very post is the thousandth post. That's right, ladies and gents, I've written 1000 blog posts over the course of nearly two years. It sounds like a small milestone for those of you long-time bloggers, but this is pretty big for me~

4. DIY Parsons Nightstand by A Beautiful Mess

5. Pom Pom Balloons (as shown in photo) by Wimp

6. DIY Room Spray by Design Love Fest
