7 DIY EOS Lip Balm, Etc. Tutorials

Thursday, June 30, 2016

By far, the most common YouTube tutorials on the planet, besides probably bath bombs (though those usually stick to the other side of the internet, AKA Pinterest) is EOS lip balms. Sure, you can buy them, but only the common peasants do that nowadays. I'm gonna warn you, not all of these are lip balm..... People are getting more and more creative and it's scaring me.

7 Ways to Charge Your iPhone Faster

Wednesday, June 29, 2016

The part that I love most about having an iPhone is that it will stay charged all week, and it doesn't end up dying on long road trips, so I usually don't end up carrying my charger with me everywhere (which is super convenient). But sometimes, you just really need it to charge a bit faster for something- maybe you have a day of travel ahead and would like to have it fully charged, but it's only at 50%! Luckily, you have an hour to get ready- how can you make it charge faster?

1. First, turn on airplane mode. It's gonna save battery because you won't get any notifications or text messages or anything that would use up any of your precious battery life.

2. Now, do the most obvious thing that not everyone knows about; turn on low power mode. This is super easy to do: just go into Settings > Battery > Low Power Mode ON. Battery is in the third little section, in between Touch ID & Passcode and Privacy. Turning on Low Power Mode temporarily reduces the amount of power that is used, which turns off mail fetch, background app refresh, automatic downloads, etc. It also turns your little battery in the corner from green to light orange.

3. Close all of your apps for pete's sake! What do you even think is using all of the battery life?! In case you didn't know this, the most obvious feature on the iPhone, close all of your apps completely by double clicking the Home button, which will show everything that is currently open.

4. Now turn on night shift, a really cool feature that can temporarily disable the blue light your phone is emitting. It gives your screen a bit of a yellowy tint, which is normal. Fun fact: it's been proven that most cases of insomnia are caused by the blue light your device is emitting, because your body thinks it resembles a blue sky, which means daytime, which means don't go to sleep. Turning this off will help your battery life significantly, because ever since I started turning it on when I go to bed, my phone stays charged way longer! You can turn on night shift by pulling up the tool bar on the bottom of your screen and tapping the little icon at the very bottom center that has a moon on it.

5. Turn your brightness all the way down. It doesn't use a whole lot of power, but enough that your iPhone will charge faster if you turn it down. This can be done either in the Settings or in the bottom toolbar.

6. Now plug your phone into a different charger, like one you would use for your iPad. If you don't have one, then this step is optional, but it will guarantee to charge your phone 30% faster than a regular iPhone charger, so I always do this when I want my phone to charge as fast as possible.

7. Finally, turn your phone over. This prevents the screen from lighting up because the it senses that the phone is turned over and face-down (screen down haha), so your screen won't light up every time you get a pesky notification.

I hope this helped you out, and that now your phone can be at 100% as you please! I hate it when my phone gets below 60%, it just bugs the heck out of me and I have to plug it in :(

15 Summer-Themed DIYs

Tuesday, June 21, 2016

It's finally summer!!! Unfortunately, Oregon is bipolar and it's been so cold for the past week (cold for me, anyway) and that means the pool is as chilly as ever and so is the house. We actually turned on the heat a couple days ago... Yep, in the middle of June. It also almost rained out our graduation, but luckily all we had was thunder, hail and a bit of rain. Happy Friday! It was raining yesterday, but it looks like today will be a little bit sunnier, which is nice.  I'm on day 3 with my new Macbook Pro, and I'm pleased to say that the OS X El Capitan operating system is super easy to use and I'm happy with my Mac, it has made everything so much easier and I'm excited to be blogging every day now because of how easy and simple it is.

10 Ways to Celebrate the Last Day of School

Thursday, June 16, 2016

IT'S THE VERY LAST DAY OF SCHOOL! Ah. It feels so good to be done with everything. Now all I have to do is sit through a three hour assembly, eat lunch, and then get free Dutch Bros. I just hate that it's gonna rain today, when we're supposed to be in the dunk tank and running around with water slides for pete's sake. Here are some ways to celebrate either while you're there, or afterwards~

6SAUMHzSvC.jpg1. Get Dutch Bros! Of course, you probably have Starbucks or maybe even Tim Horton's where you live. You don't have to get coffee, either- celebrate summer! Get some fruity, sweet drink that's cold. For example, iced coffee, iced tea, or just something cold and sweet. If it's cold where you are,  should obviously go for something a little warmer, though.

2. Dress up in your favorite summer attire. Today I'm wearing a t-shirt with the american flag on it, a daisy flower crown, jean shorts and flip flops. I don't care about the rain, I'm just praying for a minute of sun. Just think flower crowns!!!!

3. Eat popsicles. Popsicles are the ultimate summer food, and you gotta eat them, because there are so many different kinds! One time, my sister and I were in Fred Meyer's and this store employee came up to us and said that he'd bought them when he was on break, ate a few, and then was looking around for two kids to give the last ones to. The moral of the story is to always be nice to Fred Meyer's employees, and try the Tillamook frozen yoghurt popsicles that have coconut on them.

pearlsproseccoprep-tbt-to-when-it-was-normal.jpg4. Go swimming. It's the best option no matter what, because usually it's gonna be pretty warm when you get out of school, so just grab some friends and head to the river, or the pool (if you have one)! Swim all day and then watch the sunset while you're all wrapped up in a towel and have a popsicle in your hand.

5. Have a slip-n-slide! If you don't have a nearby river or pool to go to, just grab a slip-n-slide and have all the fun at home. You could even have other water-related games for you and your friends, like a dunk tank, or sprinklers to run around in- maybe even try the ice bucket challenge....? If you're not up to the ice bucket challenge, try filling a bucket with just water and surprising a friend.... ;)

6. Have a fun end-of-the-year BBQ! Grill some hotdogs and some burgers, have ice cream, hang out with friends + family. The best way to start off the summer is to have a laid back get-together, and besides, I love barbecues. The food is to die for and there's usually either ice cream or cupcakes, so I'm in.

7. Adopt a dog. This sounds crazy and unrelated, but it's nice to spend the summer with a furry friend, and I love dogs. It would be so fun to do this after school, or maybe get checked out from school just to head to the shelter and pick out a furry friend! (someone please get me another dog)

thing.jpg
8. Head to a local theme park, if you have one. This is really only an option if you live in Southern California or Florida, or any other place with Disney parks. Personally I don't enjoy rides that much but it's still such a magical experience, especially if you have annual passes that give you a discount.

9. Go to the zoo! I went to both the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Safari Park over spring break and it was SOO much fun. I would love to go back, but the nearest walk-around-zoo is four hours away in Portland.

10. Go for a road trip! It doesn't even have to be a long one. I would LOVEEEE to be checked out of school to pack my bags and drive up to Portland for a couple of days of good food and shopping, mainly because I love Portland and it's nice to get away for a while. You don't even have to drive that far, because Seattle is only about 8 hours from where I live, so as long as you left earlier enough you could make it there by that night.

Your last day of school most likely already passed, but it would still be super fun to do one of these whether it's your last day or just another warm summer day.

Yay, graduation day! I just finished graduating- it was a cold night filled with smiles, music, awards, and lots and lots of clapping. And the best part of it all- I got a new Mac! My Summer Playlist

Tuesday, June 14, 2016

Summer means music. It means jamming out by the pool, listening to it while you stargaze, playing it while you swim in the river, and going through your playlist while you barbecue. I like to have my playlists on Spotify, which is a free music streaming app that allows you to listen to your favorite music every day. Everyone needs one fit for summer~

How to Take Better Instagram Photos

Monday, June 13, 2016

Instagram is by far one of my top favorite social medias- it's appealing to the eye, interesting, people are actually active, its used by celebrities and I actually have a decent amount of followers. You can go follow me @savannahbby_14, I have a pretty good looking theme right now.... I actually went back and deleted photos because they didn't match my theme #instaqueenproblems hahahhahahhaha.

1. Lighting

This is @mylifeaseva's photo from Instagram ❤ - image #3005324 ...: Lighting is everything. No harsh lighting, nah, this has to be soft and indirect. Direct lighting will cast dark, weird shadows and won't make it look good. The best places are by windows and under soft lamps, but nothing too direct, like sunlight or really bright lamps.

2. Uniform photos

For a photo to go on Instagram, it has to be square. But you do not want to crop that landscape photo because oh my good lord it is perfect and looks like a professional took it when you actually took it on your iPhone. There's a simple fix- Whitagram. It automatically adds a white frame to make your photo a square, and it looks super nice, so when all of the photos in your profile have it, your theme will be on point.

3. The right editing

It's not hard to turn something bland and boring into a cute photo worthy of all of your social medias. a couple of tweaks will create the ultimate glow-up; all you need to do is increase the saturation, a little more fade, adjust the contrast, more brightness, etc. There are bunches of YouTube videos and Pinterest tutorials to help you ultimately achieve this, which brings me to my next tip....

4. The VSCO trick
Instagram photo by @filtertime via ink361.com:
This one is awesome, and when I heard about it on YouTube I was just amazed. All you need for this is the VSCO Cam app and Pinterest. Basically, just go on Pinterest and search "vsco" and a bunch of pictures will pop up, and they're basically templates for your Instagram theme! Just follow what it says on VSCO and all of your pictures will look uniform and beautiful.

5. Landscape it

Did you know that landscape photos are more appealing to the eye? Think about it. This doesn't mean you should only post landscapes and quit the profile shot, no no no no no, I'm just saying that those are more appealing to the eye and people are more likely to like it and tag their friends.

OTHER TIPS //

-Think of a cute caption. Witty ones that include puns always get good feedback, or go for something more deep- and if you can't think of anything, just add a couple of emojis!

pinterest ↠ beccaadownss_: -Don't forget the hashtags! This makes it more likely for people to find your photo when they're searching for a certain tag.

-This one's a big one; tell them to tag their friends! If they do, more people end up seeing and liking your photo, and then they'll tag people, and so on! So many people will end up seeing your photo.

If you follow these, it's a full proof plan to get more followers who like your content and enjoy what you post. Just remember to post frequently and don't ever spam your followers (too much)!

App Review: Poncho

Tuesday, June 7, 2016

I've done an app review in the past because I thought it would be fun, and it was hard to choose another great app to write about, and it all came down to this awesome app that I use every single day- Poncho! Poncho is a weather app, it's free on the App Store and I'm very sorry, but it is NOT available on the Google Play Store :(

WHEN I GOT IT + HOW I FOUND OUT ABOUT IT //

What could be more luxurious than a stack of books, a cup of coffee and a rainy day?: I got Poncho a couple of months ago, when I was carelessly browsing the apps and games that get recognition from Apple, and Poncho came up. I had no idea what it was from the name or picture, so I read about it and after looking at the reviews, I thought it would be a good idea to get it (not a very hard decision, considering it was free), even though I already had a weather app that came with my phone.

PROS //
-It gives you a cute little forecast every day with a funny picture to go with it- so even when the skies are grey, they still make you happy.
-The forecasts are extremely accurate, and usually have the same thing posted as Wunderground, if not more accurate, a I've noticed.
-It even comes with an alarm! You can set it to wake you up at a certain time and give you the weather forecast, and even though I already have an alarm set on my phone, this would be awesome to try out soon.
-Other cool features include parking options (New York only), whether or not you'll have frizzy hair, pollen warnings, and a barometer.
-Did I mention it gives you the WIND SPEED??
-Not only are there daily forecasts, but there are also hourly ones. Now, if only it told me when the mosquitoes are gonna come out....
-There's a referral code to earn free stuff. I'm not interested in the stuff, but if you sign up, go ahead and use my referral code; it's 9Y2FKBBK.

CONS //

-People have mentioned in the reviews section that the alarm doesn't work all that well and doesn't go off at the right time.
-When there's a chance of precipitation, I wish it would tell me the percent of the chance like Wunderground does; it's the little things like that.....
-It's nice and simple, but maybe a little too simple. There isn't really enough there.

I hope you decide to download Poncho, and if you do, use my referral code! Overall, it's a great and useful app that is cute and very accurate, as far as the weather goes (the weather forecasts are almost never accurate in Oregon because it's 104 degrees one minute and overcast and chilly the next).

Friday DIY Roundup #67

Friday, June 3, 2016

Wow. Next week is my final week of classes. Everything is coming to an end, but at the same time, there are tons of new beginnings. There's an entire summer ahead of us, holding BBQ's, swimming, bike rides, ice cream, hikes and watching the sun rise at 6 am in the warm morning dew instead of not being able to see it because of the clouds and rain. I love summer because of that.

10 Summer Pool Party DIYs

Wednesday, June 1, 2016

Pool party season is here! (so is Hump Day, by the way) It's gonna be in the hundreds this weekend, and when the pool is up to 76 degrees F, you know it's time to make a splash. Also, next week is the last full week of classes, and after that it's just graduation and saying goodbye to everything I've been looking forward to saying goodbye to. It's not really a sad goodbye... The only sad goodbye is the one we say when October comes and so does cold weather.

5 Free Downloadable Fonts for Spring

One of the main reasons I love Picmonkey is because you can use your own fonts- it's just so special that you can find any font you could ever wish for, and then put it onto your own photo; it's kind of magical, in a way (these are the things bloggers think about all day). I found a couple of cute Spring-themed fonts to share with you, and they're completely freeeeee~

1. Rose AKA Luna
2. Daffodil AKA Lillybelle
3. Tulip AKA Snickles
4. Daisy AKA Waltograph
5. Petunia AKA Ostrich Sans Inline

Yay, I love these! Daffodil is my personal favorite and I can't wait to use it in future photos, and I've always been a fan of Daisy because it's Disney, for pete's sake.
