How to Doodle Journal

Thursday, October 22, 2015

It's Thursday- and that's really close to Friday! And Friday is pretty much the weekend- so HAPPY weekend, guys! I was just thinking the other day that I haven't written a journaling post in kind of a long time and so when I saw that I'd scheduled one for today, I got pretty excited! Now, doodle journaling is a little bit of a different kind of journaling, but it counts nonetheless because of how you do it and how relaxing it ends up being. So here is a very non-official but pretty complete step-by-step guide to doodle journaling.

Writing in Notebooks, lettering, fonts....need to work on this area: Step 1: Acquire a notebook of your choice. It doesn't have to be fancy, or have lined pages (it's better without the lines, honestly), it doesn't have to be recycled or anything- nothing special. Unless you want it that way, in that case by all means invest in a nice sketchbook with a cute leather cover that you might like to use for your doodle journaling. (don't use the leather cover hahaha!)

Step 2: Grab some doodling utensils!! This is the funnest part of the process because you get to buy a ton of awesome gel pens and cute little drawing pens and such. I've got some color-changing gel pens that would be GREAT for this, and a couple of adorable tutti fruiti scented gel pens that are just so colorful I could cry. Pencils work too, but pens are my personal preference. Don't be afraid, get extravagant with it, considering these will be your weapons of choice... *evil laugh*
Step 3: Start doodling! Doodle whatever you want- zentangles, shapes, swirls, people, little words, etc. Cover entire pages with a single doodle. Make them as tiny as can be. Draw Aztec designs. Make up your own Chinese symbols- do ANYTHING! You are invincible with your doodle journal by your side.

Step 4: Now work on your doodle journal every single day and you'll start to notice how relaxing it can be. Try to get on a routine- for example, keep it on your bedside table and every morning when you wake up and every night when you go to bed you can doodle your heart out.

I hope you enjoyed this (almost complete) tutorial on doodle journaling and I hope you try it out for yourself. As you can see, it's extremely simple and you'll like it a lot. Thanks for reading!

xx Savannah
